Our 1908 house used to be a hotel and still as a secret – it's a nod to its history as a prohibition party spot | The Sun

A HOMEOWNER has revealed his century-old home's secret feature that serves as a nod to its history.

He explained that the 1908 home used to be a prohibition party spot.

Alex (@oldtownhome) shared his home's secret in a video with over 80,000 TikTok followers.

The DIY renovator explained the home's unique context and backstory.

"Our home was built in 1908 as a small hotel and over the years including Prohibition, rumor has it there was a whole lot of gambling and a whole lot of partying," he said.

"As a nod to our house's history, we're trying to infuse as many small secret places throughout the house as possible."

The DIYer explained he built secret bench storage by a wall under a set of stairs, Harry-Potter-style, as well as a secret wall access panel.

"By removing a few pieces of trim, the benchtop, and a couple of other items, it exposes an area I'm able to climb in and lower myself down," he said, demonstrating by climbing into the wall.

While viewers can only guess where the secret panel could lead him, Alex joked the possibilities were truly endless.

"Could it be a panic room? A secret vault? Maybe some gaming tables? This is only one of several secret areas that we're planning throughout the house," he said.
