Princess Kate wore £595 vivid red gown with ‘plunging neckline’ in 2011

Kate, Princess of Wales and Prince William attended the “100 Women in Hedge Funds” gala dinner on October 13, 2011, in support of a child bereavement charity.

Since October 2009, the Prince of Wales has been serving as the patron of “100 Women in Hedge Funds”.

Kate donned a vivid red maxi dress with flared sleeves and a waist tie to the event, which took place in St James’s Palace.

The Princess’s gown was designed by Beulah London. In 2011, it was marketed as the Sarai dress and sold for £595.

Its description read: “This silk jersey gown features chiffon sleeves and a plunging neckline.”

As seen in the description, Kate’s dress had a deep V-neck, making it quite a low-cut dress for the Princess of Wales.

The Princess is renowned for normally wearing more conservative-looking outfits, in keeping with royal style protocol.

Therefore, this gown was a shock for many royal fans, as they did not expect the risky number to be worn by Kate, Princess of Wales.

Despite wowing fans on the night at St James’s Palace, Kate has never re-worn this vivid red low-cut gown.

Kate accessorised on the night with her Wilbur and Gussie “Charlie” clutch bag, which sparkled in gold.

The bag’s description previously said: “Gold silk ‘Charlie’ clutch from Wilbur and Gussie featuring a front flap closure, a full lining, an internal patch pocket, an internal logo plaque, a wristlet strap and a crystal-embellished circular brooch detail.”

Unlike her Beulah London gown, Kate has brought out this Wilbur and Gussie clutch bag in recent years, including just recently at a royal wedding in Jordan.

The Princess stepped out at Crown Prince Hussein and Princess Rajwa of Jordan’s wedding carrying the gold clutch bag, which she paired with a pale pink Elie Saab dress.

This accessory is further described as an “envelope clutch of gold, glitter fabric and embellished with a crystal-encrusted brooch”.

Another time Kate carried this clutch bag was on a royal tour to Ireland in March 2020, when she visited Storehouse’s Gravity Bar in Dublin.

For this event, the Princess paired her clutch with a sparkly green Vampire’s Wife dress, which is also owned by Princess Beatrice.

Kate usually brings out this clutch bag for glitzy evening receptions, such as the official state dinner during her and William’s tour of Malaysia in 2012.
