Ten times royals proved they're like us with fashion fails, from Meghan's see-through skirt to Kate's wrinkled dress | The Sun

THEY may be the picture of elegance during public appearances – but now and then the royal family has fashion fails just like the rest of us.

From see-through skirts to tags left on clothes, even the likes of Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton have style faux pas they wish they could forget.

Meghan’s see-through skirt

In October 2018 during the final day of her New Zealand tour, the Duchess of Sussex wore a gorgeous pleated skirt by Givenchy.

However, her outfit was a lot more revealing than she may have anticipated as it proved to be completely sheer in certain lighting.

Luckily she had a pair of rather large knickers on underneath, saving her from any further embarrassment.

These days sheer has become quite a trend, so maybe she was just ahead of the curve.

Kate always looks pristine, so royal fans were surprised when she stepped out at Wimbledon in a wrinkled dress.

Although the royal looked stunning in the green Roland Mouret dress for the Men's Final, the dress looked like it needed an iron.

One royal fan commented: "Such a beautiful shade of green but I’ve never seen her wear something so creased upon arrival."

Surprising edit Paris Fury made to the Netflix show before it aired

A few years ago, the royal mum-of-three accidentally revealed sticky pads inside her shoes, which helped to secure her inside her heels – genius!

And the best part is that the product won't break the bank.

You can buy the must-have, non-slip tights from John Lewis for just £7, and they come in nude, black or natural shades.

Meghan’s tag showing

Another fashion mishap Meghan suffered on her New Zealand tour was when she stepped out in a red Self-Portrait dress.

While the dress may have been lovely on, she forgot one key detail – the tag.

Sticking out at the bottom of the dress it was visible for all to see, if she wanted to return to the store after she might have tried to hide it a bit better.

Diana’s see-through skirt

The late Princess Diana was known as a fashion icon around the world, and many people still copy her iconic looks.

However, they may think twice about wearing a skirt that Diana was photographed in during 1981.

During a photoshoot at the nursery she worked in, the sun came out midway through, making her skirt appear see-through.

Diana, who was 19 at the time, was said to be horrified.

Queen’s unweighted hem

Even the late Queen wasn’t immune to the odd faux pas.

During a visit to RAF Valley in Anglesey in 2011, Her Majesty was forced to hold on to her hat  and coat due to high winds.

Thankfully, the Queen was said to have circular lead curtain weights sewn into all her hand-made outfits, which measured an inch across and weighed less than an ounce.

Royal couturier, Stewart Parvin, told MailOnline: “I just pop a couple of weights into the hemline of her dresses and coats and it makes them hang beautifully.”

Prince William’s hole in his shoe

He may be the future King, but even Prince William seemingly wears shoes with a hole in on occasion.

During his 2019 interview with Sir David Attenborough at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, he crossed his leg and exposed one of his soles.

The shoe appeared heavily worn, but some fans speculated that it could have been a piece of black tape.

Queen Camilla’s Marilyn Monroe moment

Queen Camilla experienced her own Marilyn Monroe moment and she struggled to keep her skirt down at Princess Charlotte’s christening.

The wife of King Charles unfortunately got caught by a large gust of wind as she turned up at the Church of St Mary Magdalene in Sandringham.

Clutching onto her hat, she successfully maintained her dignity – just.

The Queen’s stained dress

The late Queen always looked pristine during royal events, apart from one uncharacteristic soiree.

In 2010, the monarch was attending the 70th birthday of her cousin, Crown Prince Pavlos of Greece, in London, and her dress was photographed stained with food.

The Daily Mail later claimed it was a "coffee spillage" done by a member of the waiting staff.

In addition to her dress, her glittery bag was seen with a broken strap.

Meghan’s coat stitching

During a public appearance in Birmingham, Meghan wore a navy J.Crew coat which had a certain detail out of place.

The stylish design matched her outfit perfectly, but Meghan made a major faux pas when she failed to remove the X-shaped stitching, which is added to garments with a slit to help maintain their shape before use.
