TRENDS come and go, but there are a few you should ditch sooner rather than later, at least according to this interior designer.
The kitchen is the heart of your home, so you want to to be practical and well as somewhere you actually want to spend time.
These interior design mistakes will make your kitchen look outdated and cheap – so it's best to avoid them.
Preston Konrad, a creative director based in New York, shared some things you shouldn't waste your money one.
Grey kitchens
The problem with this trend is it's very overdone and looks one-dimensional.
"It's pretty but everything looks the same," he explained on TikTok.

If you like everything to be the same colour though, you can still get that look with jewel tones, like dark greens and deep blues.
"I'm obsessed with the dark green kitchen, I think it's so classic and totally worth it," he said.
When it comes to kitchens, fellow interior designer Nick Lewis shared another impractical option you might want to avoid – open shelving.
Even though they look great in showrooms, magazines and online, the problem is they only look that way because they've been expertly styled with the best plates, ornaments and fresh flowers.

Not only that, but they are a total nightmare to keep clean and will need regular dusting.
Shiplap walls and furniture
Shiplap had it's moment but now it's over, Preston said.
"Shiplap is done – it's everywhere, it's on every home renovation show, and everyone's house is starting to look the same,'" he said.
But doesn't mean you can't crate interest in other ways,
"What's trending right now is more wallpaper," he added.
Consider creating a more stylish space by layering fabrics and carpets and opting for bold colours.
Trendy furniture
Ultra-modern furniture might seem like a good idea right now, but the truth is it will go out of style very quickly.
Of course, furniture can be pretty expensive, so you want something that will last and won't look outdated within a year.

For this, Preston recommended mid-century furniture and fittings to ensure your home had that timeless look.
He said: "Mid-century everything – more traditional, more interest, I approve of this. Traditional styles age the best."
