Thrifty mum shows how to make a family Christmas dinner for under £20 – and she’s bought enough for a three-course meal | The Sun

WITH so many hungry mouths to feed on Christmas Day, many of us will be wanting to make meal prepping a bit easier.

Though she won’t guarantee that nothing will burn on the big day, one mum has shared how to save on the key ingredients – making three courses for less than £20!

Though you might think she spent hours stalking the reduce section, savvy shopper Dylan actually just popped down to her local Aldi instead.

Known for her purse-friendly recipes, the Tiktoker revealed which items she added to her shopping trolley as she prepared for Christmas Day.

With four guests to feed, the budget was incredibly tight but the mum managed to cook up a storm and even had three courses for her guests.

In fact, most of the items on her Christmas wish list cost less than a £1 with the influencer showing off her incredible receipt at the end of her shop – just £19.98.

Grabbing basic ingredients, like four baking potatoes and essential chocolate, Dylan even demonstrated how to prepare the mouth-watering meal to her 102,000 fans.

However, her biggest saving came by swapping the traditional turkey for a large chicken – with the smaller bird only costing her £4.49 in the supermarket.

Whilst many of us might struggle to change up our typical festive feast, she explained: “I think when it comes to Christmas, everybody had their own traditions but this is just what my family would eat and hopefully this appeals to a lot of you as well.”

For those who are hoping to recreate the meal, the mum began by picking up some white baguettes (85p), gem lettuce (75p), prawn cocktail (£1.99) and Brussels pate (just 69p).

This simple start of crusty bread paired with spread and the fish in lettuce cups looked incredibly appetising and cost just £4.28 for her starter.

Moving on to the main course, the mum prepared the chicken (£4.49) with the stuffing (49p),potatoes (92p), Brussel sprouts (£1.09), carrots (33p) and pigs in blankets (£1.99).

Unlike most shoppers, Dylan was able to make a saving here by cutting up large baking potatoes and then cooking them to her liking once she got home.

“[Use] the largest ones you can find,” she laughed, showing how she’d picked them up loose for just 23p per potato.

By doing this simple trick, the mum-of-two found that she had more than enough – even preparing an extra helping for her nana.

Dylan even found time to whip up dessert using two sliced Swiss rolls (£1.35), double cream (£1.05), oranges (59p), strawberry jelly (85p), chocolate (45p) and custard (875p).

Lovingly making her take on a Christmas trifle, she even arranged the homemade pud into a wreath just for Christmas.

Unsurprisingly, many mum were eager to test out the meal with one even thanks her for sharing the cut-price Christmas menu.
