We waited six months to see what was behind the boarded up fireplace of our new home & we really hit the jackpot | The Sun

IF you’ve ever moved into a new home, you’ll know that there can be surprises around every corner.

So when one woman called Stacey got the keys to the property she was hellbent on renovating, she knew that there would be some ups and downs along the way.

That’s exactly the reason that Stacey decided to wait to see what was behind the boarded up fireplace in the living room in her Edwardian house.

However, six months after moving in, she decided she was brave enough for the moment of truth – and was pleasantly surprised by what she found.

Stacey, who can be found on TikTok at @end_of_the_row, opened up about the process, as she revealed: “We’ve waited 6 months through the winter before we wanted to start uncovering the fireplaces.”

She then teased: “[And] we hit the jackpot!”

The TikToker then posted a video on her social media profile, showing the step-by-step process of how she discovered they’d lucked out.

She zoomed in on the before look – a white traditional looking fireplace boarded up with pastel floral wallpaper.

The interior design student then explained: “We have been living in this house for 6 months and have decided it’s time to take the board off the fireplace.”

Ramping up the tension, she asked: “What is it going to be? A beautiful original fireplace – or an empty space?”

The footage then showed her chipping away at the board until it came away to reveal an ornate fireplace still intact.

The black fireplace unit was surrounded by art deco green tiles with a bold pattern painted onto them and definitely proved to be one of a kind.

Stacey excitedly told her 8k followers: “Jackpot! I can’t believe our luck!

“Why would you ever cover up something so beautiful?”

And Stacey’s followers were quick to agree that she was lucky to have such a piece of art in her home.

One TikTok user wrote: “The way I gasped when I saw that tile!”

A second said: “Wow! An arts and crafts period treasure – lucky you.”

A third social media user commented: “Sweet find.”
