Who is Anna Wintour, what's her net worth and when did she meet the Queen and why does she always wear sunglasses? | The Sun

ANNA Wintour is possibly the world's most famous fashion journalist, with a career spanning almost 50 years.

Here, we look at her career, and how much she earns.

What is Anna Wintour's net worth?

Anna Wintour has a net worth of over £40million, according to Celebrity Net Worth.

As well as her salary (which is rumoured to be £1.43million), she also receives a clothing allowance of £143,000 per year.

In 2020, it was announced that Wintour would take a 20 per cent pay cut in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

However, this was reversed later that year by Vogue's US publisher Conde Nast.

Who is Anna Wintour?

Anna Wintour was born in London on November 3, 1949.

She is best known for being editor-in-chief of fashion magazine Vogue, a role that she has held since 1988.

Through her editor role at the iconic fashion magazine, she is well regarded as an important figure in the fashion world.

She is credited with reviving Vogue, which was considered a stagnant publication before she took the reins.

Her father, Charles Wintour, was editor of the Evening Standard between 1959 and 1976.

She was editor of British Vogue in London between 1985 and 1987.

How long has she been at Vogue?

The iconic figure has been at Vogue for over 30 years.

Joining in 1988, Ronald Reagan was still president when she took up her mantle.

As the decades have gone by, there were were rumours in 2008 that she might be retiring.

Fans wore 'Save Anna' t-shirts, using an image designed by Christopher Lee Suave.

But in response Condé Nast responded by taking out a full-page ad in The New York Times defending her record.

And as rumours have reared their head again in 2018, it seems the publication is once again defending their editor's position.

At the beginning of August Condé Nast tweeted their support, quashing any rumours of a departure.

They posted a statement from Bob Sauerberg, CEO, saying: "Anna Wintour is an incredibly talented and creative leader whose influence is beyond measure.

"She is integral to the future of our company's transformation and has agreed to work with me indefinitely in her role as @voguemagazine editor-in-chief and artistic director of Condé Nast."

Why does she always wear sunglasses?

Anna Wintour has a distinctive style – her hair is cut into a blunt bob, and she always wears dark sunglasses.

As well as looking glamorous, the lenses in her glasses are actually corrective, as she has poor eyesight.

They also allow her to keep her reactions to fashion shows private, and Anna told 60 Minutes: "I think at this point they've become, you know, really armour.”

She has also said that the glasses are part of who she is.

When did she meet the queen?

In February 2018, she was sat next to Queen Elizabeth II during the Richard Queen show at the AW18 London Fashion Week.

She has also received honours by the queen, as she was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the queen’s 2008 birthday honours.

Additionally, in May 2017, she was created a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire, for her contributions to fashion and journalism.
