Alan Carr’s ‘feud’ with ex-husband over BFF Adele explained after they ‘divvied up celeb pals’

Alan Carr has been slammed by his ex-husband Paul Drayton, after the comedian said he'd won "custody" of superstar singer Adele amid the pair's split.

Alan, 46, and Paul were together for 13 years and married for three, before their 'messy split' in January 2022.

During an appearance on 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown on Channel 4 last summer, Alan made light of the split as he said he and Paul had "divvied up their celebrity friends" and that he had "won custody of Adele", who officiated their wedding in 2019 at her LA mansion.

He also said that Paul's lawyer had told him that Paul gets "half of everything" as he held up half a teddy bear, half a kettle and half a toaster.

But Paul has challenged Alan's words, as he claimed that he and Adele were closer than she and Alan.

Speaking to The Sun On Sunday, Paul said: "Adele is one of my best friends and the truth is she was closer to me than Alan. The comments he made were in bad taste. They really upset me, to be honest, as there was also the suggestion I was being greedy.

"I texted Alan afterwards and said, 'This is out of order, it’s upset me and it’s upset my mum.'"

He then confirmed that the Chatty Man star didn't respond.

Paul continued: "I sent Adele the same clip and she replied, 'Just take the high road, babe,' meaning just ignore it. She is amazing at giving advice, she really is. I know that whenever I need her, she will be there for me because she’s a loyal friend and an incredible person."

OK! has contacted Alan's representative for comment.

During his 8 Out of 10 Cats appearance, Alan said: "'I’ve gone through a really spiteful, messy divorce. My ex’s lawyer said take half of everything, look at that.

"But not just that, household items. Look at that, half a kettle, half a toaster, half a fondue set. All the cheese goes all over the floor.

"Obviously, people want to know about . . . we’ve divvied up our celebrity friends. I get custody of Adele. Paul gets Gok at the weekends."

Alan and Paul announced their split in January 2022, with a joint statement, which read: "After 13 years as a couple and three years of marriage, Alan Carr and Paul Drayton would like to announce they are separating.

"They have jointly and amicably made the difficult decision to divorce and go their separate ways. We request that their privacy is respected at this sensitive time."
