American living in UK ‘uncomfortable’ by ‘rude’ British pub names

A baffled American enraged Brits after they asked why pubs were named after "rude" words – and admitted it made them "uncomfortable."

Since moving to the UK, this one US expat has spent the last year posting on social media about all the things that have confused them about their new home.

And there has been a lot.

From parking in 'gardens' to supermarkets with clocktowers, the American's culture shock has gained them thousands of followers on TikTok.

But, their most recent source of puzzlement left them "uncomfortable" – and caused Brits to rage in the comments.

"Why do all British people name all their pubs after rude words?" the confused American questioned. "It's so bizarre and makes me uncomfortable."

In the viral clip, the American came across a pub named 'The Cock' – a title given to many boozers.

But they didn't put the pieces together to realise that the name was in reference to the bird – not male genitalia.

Many Brits rushed to the comments to ridicule the American for not realising this whereas others defended their much beloved pubs.

One person blasted: "A chicken isn't rude."

Another Brit defended: "My kinda pub!"

While a third said: "Look above the word, it's a male chicken."

Someone else slammed: "You have a dirty mind. There is even an illustration of a cockerel or rooster above the word."

Meanwhile, a fifth jibed: "Omg an American saying a rude word, you need to get out more."

Elsewhere, another American – who was just paying a visit to the UK – was equally confused when they got to their hotel room.

Once they checked out the bathroom, they noticed a peculiar item attached to the wall…which turned out to be a radiator.
