QIPCO British Champions Day Preview

The brightest stars in British racing come together at Ascot this weekend for Champions Day to draw the curtain on another epic Flat season.

As always, Champions Day sees the very best – including the likes of Paddington, Trueshan and Shaquille – compete for an array of top-class Group 1 races.

But Saturday has even greater significant to the wider racing community with one the most famous and successful jockeys in the history of horse racing taking part for the final time.

It's more than likely that this will be Frankie Dettori's last book of rides on British soil and glittering finale before departing for the US.

And he could exit on a jubilant high on King Of Steel in the Champion Stakes (15:45) having been picked by Kia Joorabchian to ride his Derby runner-up.

Dettori is currently a best-price 6/1 to land the £740,000 first-place prize, but he's got more than a sniff of landing with Trawlerman (13:15, Long Distance Cup), Kinross (13:50, Sprint Stakes), Free Wind (14:25, Fillies & Mares Stakes) and Inspiral (15:05, Queen Elizabeth II Stakes).

John and Thady Gosden's Gold Cup hero Courage Mon Ami is a high-profile absentee from the Long Distance Cup, leaving Kyprios and Trueshan to dominate the betting markets.

Ralph Beckett-trained six-year-old Kinross is a warm 2/1 favourite and generally considered to be Dettori's best chance of a winner on his final day. The pair stormed to success in this race last year.

Paddington is clearly the draw in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes having reeled off four successive Group One wins in the Irish 2000 Guineas, St James’s Palace Stakes, Eclipse and the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood.

How to sign up to a horse racing betting site

Signing up to a horse racing betting site is a straightforward process once you know who you would like to bet with. Make sure you have a good shop around and look at things like sign up offers for new members and what the bookmaker offers and whether it suits what kind of experience you are looking for – this guide should hopefully offer you some good advice.

  • Once you have made your decision and picked a sign up offer, you need to head to the sign up page of that bookmaker. Some sign up offers will come with links that you can click – like above – that remove the need to go looking for the sign up page, while some other sign up offers will come with offer codes that you will need to remember and input when asked.
  • When you reach the sign up page, you will be required to input your details and confirm that you are 18 or over through age verification – some bookmakers may also require you to send things like identification documents and utility bills depending on their process.
  • Once you have put in your details, you will need to agree to the terms and conditions of the site and click ‘sign up’. You may be sent an email confirmation with a link to click – but otherwise you should be ready to place some bets on the horse racing!
