Shopping for a new foundation is no easy task. With huge shade ranges to tackle, varying formulas to take into consideration and a sliding scale of price ranges to choose from, it can be hard to narrow down the exact product you need.
If you have oily skin, we’re here to help you. We’ve taken a look through some of the top reviewed foundations that promise to tackle shiny complexions with mattifying – but non-drying – formulas. So from Fenty Beauty’s highly-rated Pro Filt’r Foundation to NYX’s TikTok-trending mattifying base, here are the top five products to shop for 2022…
Best foundations for oily skin
Estée Lauder’s Double Wear Sheer SPF20 Foundation, £35.50 here
The little sister to the iconic Double Wear heavy duty foundation, this version offers lighter coverage (hence the added “sheer”) but with the promise of resistance to sweat, oil and humidity, and protection from the sun, pollution and blue light.
Our own OK! deputy beauty editor Zoe, who suffers from oily skin herself, tried this out and was very impressed with its oil control abilities. “I would describe it as giving me a ‘porcelain’ look – and I don’t mean the colour. The feel of porcelain itself is almost satin-like and extremely smooth, which is how my skin felt and looked wearing this,” she says.
Fenty Beauty PRO FILT'R Soft Matte Longwear Foundation, £30 here
The biggest problem that those with oily skin face when it comes to foundation is how long the product lasts on the skin before it slips – often no longer than midday. Reviewers love this foundation from Rihanna’s cosmetic line because it has “incredible staying power”.
“I’ve been buying this foundation for at least four years now. It has amazing coverage, it isn’t oily on the skin and comes in a great choice of colours,” says one enamoured Boots reviewer.
Primark’s PS… Double Coverage Matte Foundation, £5 in stores
According to savvy shoppers on Facebook’s Extreme Couponing & Bargains group, this Primark foundation is “dupe” for Estée Lauder’s original Double Wear Foundation – known for being one of the best full-coverage foundations. The Primark version promises both decent coverage and long-lasting staying power for those with oily skin.
L'Oréal Paris Infallible 32H Freshwear Foundation, £11.99 here
The waterproof and transfer-proof nature of the formula makes this foundation a great choice for those with oily complexions. It also promises to last on skin for up to 32 hours – though who would want to stay wearing a foundation for that long, we wonder?
NYX Professional Makeup Can’t Stop Won’t Stop Full Coverage Foundation, £15 here
This promises to feel lightweight on the skin with a waterproof and highly pigmented liquid formula. It also comes in 45 shades that won’t transfer or rub off easily. For those looking for long-lasting wear, the matte coverage stays true for up to 24 hours. Perfect.
