Celebrity couples who wed in Las Vegas – and are they still together?

Can Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck beat the curse of the Sin City wedding? As Bennifer becomes the latest A-list couple to get hitched in Las Vegas, a look back at the other stars who tied the knot there – and the many divorces that followed

  • Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez delighted fans after announcing they exchanged vows at A Little White Wedding Chapel over the weekend
  • The couple tied the knot in an intimate ceremony, 20 years after previously calling off their engagement due to ‘excessive media attention’
  • Bennifer join the likes of Britney Spears, Bruce Willis, Pamela Anderson and more stars who have tied the knot at the popular destination
  • Celebrity weddings in Vegas don’t necessarily lead to long-lasting marriages, with many famous couples eventually calling it quits over the years
  • However, smitten couples such as Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos and Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. – who also got hitched in the Sin City – are still going strong

Celebrities are well known for holding lavish wedding ceremonies, but much like Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez, many superstar couples have opted to surprise the world by getting married in Las Vegas instead.

From Bruce Willis and Demi Moore to Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner, famous pairs over the years have proven that Sin City will always be a popular choice when it comes to tying the knot in a low-key ceremony.

However, the popular destination doesn’t particularly have the best reputation for long lasting marriages.

Some superstar couples that eloped in Sin City have managed to last for the long haul with the likes of Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos recently celebrating their 26th wedding anniversary. Elsewhere, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. are set to celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary in September.

Meanwhile, other couplings have failed to go the distance, with Britney Spears famously ending her marriage to childhood friend Jason Alexander after 55 hours, while Nicolas Cage’s marriage to Erika Koike lasted just four days.

Indeed, the many celebrity weddings that have taken place over the years indicate that what happens in Vegas doesn’t often stay past Vegas when it comes to high-profile nuptials.

After Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez joined the growing list of couples to say ‘I do’ in Vegas, FEMAIL has taken a look at the other stars who famously got hitched in Sin City – and uncovered whether or not they are still together.

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez – Together

Married: July 2022 – Present

True love conquers all: Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck have become the latest celebrity couple to tie the knot in Las Vegas

Marry Me: The couple were the picture of happiness on their special day which came as a surprise to fans

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck tied the knot over the weekend in an intentionally low-key ceremony, nearly 20 years after the couple called off their engagement due to ‘excessive media attention.’

The high-profile pair surprised fans by choosing to slip away to Vegas with their kids for an intimate exchange of vows at the world famous A Little White Wedding Chapel.

The chapel – established in the 1950s – has married about 800,000 couples and has been the chosen venue for many quick celebrity weddings.

Jennifer, 52, detailed her journey to the altar on her newsletter On The JLo, where she shared how the couple read their own vows and opted not to pay extra for an Elvis impersonator during the intimate ceremony.

In the newsletter – which was signed Mrs. Jennifer Lynn Affleck – the Hustlers star included candid selfies of the newlyweds and video of the couple preparing for their special day, including one of Ben, 49, getting ready inside the chapel’s bathroom and photos of the singer in her wedding dress.

‘We did it. Love is beautiful. Love is kind. And it turns out, love is patient. 20 years patient,’ she wrote in her post. ‘Exactly what we wanted. Last night we flew to Vegas, stood in line for a license with four other couples, all making the same journey to the wedding capital of the world.’

She continued: ‘Behind us two men held hands and held each other. In front of us, a young couple who made the three hour drive from Victorville on their daughter’s second birthday – all of us wanting the same thing – for the world to recognize us as partners and to declare our love to the world through the ancient and nearly universal symbol of marriage.

‘So with the best witnesses you could ever imagine, a dress from an old movie and a jacket from Ben’s closet, we read our own vows in the little chapel and gave one another the rings we’ll wear for the rest of our lives.’

Love Don’t Cost A Thing: The multihyphenate entertainer pictured wearing one of her two wedding dresses, which came from her own closet

The star shares 14-year-old twins Emme and Max with ex-husband Marc Anthony, 53, and Affleck shares three kids with ex-wife Jennifer Garner, 50: Violet, 16, Seraphina, 13, and Samuel, 10.

The dynamic couple tied the knot just three months after becoming engaged again and two decades after the actor first got down on one knee.

After meeting on the set of the film Gigli in 2002, the twosome planned a lavish September 2003 wedding in Santa Barbara. However, just days before the date the duo announced that they planned to postpone the event.

Months later they ended their romance completely and married other people shortly thereafter. The pair then delighted fans when they officially rekindled their romance in May 2021.

What happens in Vegas: The impromptu occasion took place in April 2022 after the Grammys

In April 2022, Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker surprised everyone by saying ‘I do’ at the One Love Wedding in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Kardashians star, 43, took to Instagram to share a gallery of snaps from the nuptials as she revealed that some drinking lead to the impromptu trip down the aisle after the 64th Annual Grammys.

Kourtney captioned the gallery of retro snaps to her 168million followers: ‘Once upon a time in a land far, far away (Las Vegas) at 2am, after an epic night and a little tequila, a queen and her handsome king ventured out to the only open chapel with an Elvis and got married (with no license).’

Practice makes perfect: The ceremony took place in front of an Elvis impersonator in a room with white walls adorned with pictures of orchids and matching drapery

Drunk In Love: The reality television star went on to legally tie the knot with the Bling-182 drummer in May

She also confirmed that it was not an actual legal ceremony as they did not have a marriage license, but it would help them for their actual wedding as she wrote: ‘Practice makes perfect.’

Under her leather jacket, Kourtney wore a yellow 2012 vintage Versace bustier with a huge crystal gothic cross down the middle as she and Travis, 46, packed on the PDA by sharing several kisses.

They both also sported a pair of black designer sunglasses as her man opted to show off his body art by going shirtless under the outerwear.

As an Elvis impersonator to officiate the wedding was mandatory, the one they got did not disappoint as he sported a shiny gold jacket and several matching chain necklaces with the King Of Rock ‘N Roll’s signature large shades.

In May 2022, the reality television star legally tied the knot with the Bling-182 drummer in a Santa Barbara courthouse, before they held a lavish Italian wedding in Portofino weeks later.

Riko, 27, walked down the aisle to her favorite song Winter Song by Kiroro before they exchanged traditional Catholic and Shinto vows with poetry from Walt Whitman and Haiku ‘sprinkled in’, a rep for the actor told DailyMail.com.

The happy couple was pictured surrounded by white candles and green foliage in the hotel’s Primrose Courtyard as the masked officiant Reverend Richard E. Walter performed at the ceremony, before the newlyweds walked hand in hand back into the hotel.

After the wedding, the bride and groom held a small celebration attended by Nicholas’ third wife Alice – with whom he has remained good friends – and their son Kal.

Nicholas confirmed the wedding at the time and said the couple was enjoying newly-wedded bliss, telling DailyMail.com: ‘It’s true, and we are very happy.’

Stranger Things star David Harbour tied the knot with singer Lily Allen at the iconic Graceland Chapel in Las Vegas in September 2020, following months of secret planning.

Making their nuptials a true classic Las Vegas affair, the lovebirds were married by an Elvis Presley impersonator.

In snaps shared from the ceremony, Lily opted for a short 60s-inspired Dior dress to exchange vows with a suited and booted David, 47, before celebrating their union with dinner at the fast food chain In-N-Out.

Lily, 37, opted for a short white double-breasted dress with a bateau neckline, black buttons, and a belted waist teamed with black suede platforms heels and a small bouquet of pink flowers.

The Smile hitmaker pulled her raven tresses into a bouffant with a matching white veil, while David wore a classic navy blue suit for the occasion.

The pair were joined by Lily’s children Ethel and Marnie as they tucked into their fast food outside.

Lily revealed that her wedding to David was supposed to be a ‘very private’ affair, but Nevada Clark County tweeted their marriage certificate.

Speaking on the Sex, Lies & DM Slides podcast, the star joked that ‘what happens in Vegas, gets tweeted out by Vegas.’

Lily said: ‘We didn’t plan to announce it to anyone, it was meant to be a very private affair we were leaving Vegas and driving to Los Angeles and Nevada Clark County tweeted our marriage certificate.’

She quipped: ‘So that saying, “what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas”, what happens in Vegas gets tweeted out by Vegas!’

The star added that she never planned to marry in Vegas and that due to COVID-19 lockdown it was one of the few places able to do weddings.

Lily joked: ‘So it seemed to be the only place that was stupid enough to have ceremonies so… it happened!’

The stars were first linked in January 2019, and Lily was first photographed wearing what appeared to be an engagement ring in November.

In the clips, Joe was seen waiting at the altar before Sophie entered and walked down the aisle in a white veil and jumpsuit and gold Gucci mules.

Their ceremony in the Vegas chapel was presided over by an Elvis impersonator. In one clip, Sophie, 26, repeated the words: ‘I thee wed…. and I love you… and I thank God He gave me you.’

Then the couple, at Elvis’s direction, repeated to each other in unison: ‘I promise you, I will never leave you. I will love and trust you all the days of my life.’

Elvis then told Joe, 32: ‘You may kiss the bride’, which he did as the guests whooped and hollered.

Country stars Dan and Shay played their hit Speechless during the ceremony, before Diplo played tunes from his deck.

The couple followed the Vegas wedding with a larger ceremony at a chateau in France a month later. The couple have since welcomed two children together.

Nicolas Cage and Erika Koike – Split

Married: 2019 (four days)

Viva Las Vegas: Nicolas Cage first got married in Vegas when he tied the knot with Erika Koike in May 2018

Cage and Koike were married for four days in March 2019 before he filed for an annulment.

Just hours after their impulsive walk down the aisle, the couple were seen in the midst of screaming match outside of a Las Vegas casino.

The Oscar winner had earlier been caught on video applying for a marriage license at a Las Vegas courthouse on Saturday in a somewhat agitated state.

However, the couple tied the knot the same day that they applied for the license but the honeymoon period didn’t last long.

Nicolas, 58, has said he was ‘too drunk’ to get married in annulment papers filed four days after he tied the knot in Las Vegas. The couple had been dating a year at the time of their sudden marriage.

In court documents the actor claimed that he and the 37-year-old make-up artist were intoxicated and he ‘lacked understanding of his actions in marrying [Koike] to the extent that he was incapable of agreeing to the marriage’.

The Kick-Ass actor has son Weston Coppola Cage, 31, with ex Christina Fulton and son Kal-El, 16, with ex-wife Alice Kim.

Shia LaBeouf and Mia Goth – Split

Married: 2016 to 2018

‘No marriage license’: Shia LaBeouf and Mia Goth were seen participating in a marriage ceremony at the Viva Las Vegas Wedding Chapel in 2016

Rocky road: The wedding was accidentally livestreamed because of the package deal purchased by the couple

Transformers star Shia LaBeouf married his on-and-off partner Mia Goth in 2016, with a themed wedding at the Viva Las Vegas chapel in October 2016.

The pair have famously had a rocky relationship, being on and off since 2012, when they met on Lars Von Trier’s controversial and sexually explicit two-part film Nymphomaniac.

However, the couple took their relationship to the next level when they married during a Vegas wedding, which was revealed on Twitter by the Clark County Nevada account.

During the Elvis-themed affair, they promised to ‘adopt each other’s hound dogs,’ ‘never wear their blue suede shoes in the rain,’ and ‘always be each other’s teddy bear.’

Shia, 36, later told Ellen DeGeneres that the couple never intended for an audience watch, explained that the ceremony had been livestreamed nuptials on TMZ as the result of an accidental mishap.

Drama: The couple first met on the set of Nymphomaniac: Vol II, in 2012, only to endure plenty of drama as an on-again, off-again relationship; the pair pictured in 2014

‘The plan was for it to be a private deal … but part of the package, the King Tut package, you get a live stream for free,’ the Disturbia actor explained. ‘And I said, “You know, we don’t really need that as a matter of fact. We’ll just take our private tape”

He continued: ‘We get home and it’s like, “Whoa, hey, listen something changed.” So I called them up and they said, “Somebody pressed the wrong button that sends the video to TMZ.”’

Shia filed for divorce in 2018, but it’s been unclear if the union was actually fully dissolved, or even legally binding, especially after a Twitter account for Clark County, Nevada, tweeted that the he and Mia, 28, merely had a non-binding commitment ceremony with the Elvis impersonator.

After reportedly doing the ‘on-and-off’ relationship drama, the pair have been back ‘on’ as a couple since March 2020. It was revealed that the pair welcomed their first child together in April 2022.
