Deborah James sips on a pint while enjoying lunch in the sunshine with her mum | The Sun

DAME Deborah James has enjoyed a pint in the sunshine with her mum, Heather.

The pair were sat in front of the canal at a country pub in Woking.

The Sun writer has been living at her parents' home in the area after being moved to palliative care last month.

Also known as 'Bowelgran', Heather posted a snap of the pair enjoying an afternoon at the The Anchor pub.

Deborah is seen sipping a pint, while Heather looks to be enjoying a glass of wine.

Posting to Instagram she said: "A lovely relaxing lunch in the sunshine."

Both Heather and her husband Alistair have been by their daughter's side throughout her journey and they have both featured in Deborah's Instagram stories to help out with her Rebellious Hope T-shirts.

Over the last few weeks Bowelbabe has continued to campaign to raise both money and awareness for bowel cancer.

The 40-year-old has now inspired a major change to packs of loo roll after calling for packaging to list symptoms of the disease.

Andrex has now committed to raising awareness of symptoms over its products from July, following Marks & Spencer.

M&S kicked things off when one of its employees, Cara Hoofe, came up with the idea, having been diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer in 2016 at 32-years-old.

She was inspired to put forward the idea by Dame Debs after seeing all the work she has done to raise awareness.

Alongside this she has also raised over £1million through the sales of her Rebellious Hope t-shirts.

Available in white, pink, navy and black, the tops are branded with the 40-year-old Sun writer's motto.

The money raised will go towards the BowelBabe fund, which Debs set up to 'help give more Deborah's more time'.

So far the fund has raised over £6.7million with money going towards helping Cancer Research UK, the Royal Marsden and Bowel Cancer UK.

Deborah said: "I’m blown away and beyond thankful for all the support that the public has shown in buying the t-shirts but also the the generosity of In the style to make it all happen.

"£1 million is far beyond the expectations we ever talked about at the beginning!"

The signs of bowel cancer you need to know – remember BOWEL

  1. B:Bleeding

There are several possible causes of bleeding from your bottom, of blood in your poo.

Bright red blood could come from swollen blood vessels, haemorrhoids or piles, in your back passage.

Dark red or black blood could come from your bowel or stomach.

Blood in your stools is one of the key signs of bowel cancer, so it’s important to mention it to your doctor so they can investigate.

2. O: Obvious change in loo habits

It’s important to tell your GP if you have noticed any changes in your bowel habits, that lasts three weeks or longer.

It’s especially important if you have also noticed signs of blood in your poo.

You might notice you need to go to the loo more often, you might have looser stools or feel like you’re not going enough or fully emptying your bowels.

Don’t be embarrassed, your GP will have heard a lot worse! Speak up and get it checked.

3. W: Weight loss

This is less common than the other symptoms, but an important one to be aware of. If you’ve lost weight and don’t really know why, it’s worth mentioning to your GP.

You may not feel like eating, feel sick, bloated and not hungry.

4. E: Extreme tiredness

Bowel cancer that causes bleeding can cause a lack of iron in the body – anaemia. If you develop anaemia you’re likely to feel tired and your skin might look pale.

5. L: Lump or pain

As with lots of other forms of cancer, a lump or pain can be a sign of bowel cancer.

It’s most likely you’ll notice a pain or lump in your stomach or back passage

Over the weekend, Deborah also celebrated Father's Day with her family, praising both her dad Alistair and her husband Sebastien Bowen.

In an exclusive interview with The Sun, Dame Deborah told of her love for her father.

She said: “My dad is my unsung hero, more so than ever. He’s quietly there behind the scenes, making sure I am OK.

He’s always been a very calming, loving presence in my life — he’s very good at handling me and all my craziness. His patience knows no bounds.”

She joked that if she were ever in trouble with Alistair, she'd know that "s*** was bad".

“It didn’t matter how naughty I’d been, he knew how to handle me," she said.

“When I ruined the bathroom when I dyed my hair, he took it all in his stride.

“Even at the age of 40, he was the man I called if I broke down.
