Ever since I lost my job, I've lost all my confidence and motivation | The Sun

DEAR DEIDRE: EVER since I lost my job two years ago, I’ve been struggling to get out of bed in the mornings.

I’ve got a new job now, but I’ve lost all my confidence and motivation, and I don’t know how to get it back.

I’m a 28-year-old man and I’m on the autistic spectrum.

I had a job working at a garden centre, which I really loved as I’m very interested in, and knowledgeable about, plants and nature.

But I had some problems dealing with customers, and instead of supporting me, my employer said it wasn’t working out. And they ended my probation period.

They knew I was autistic when they gave me the job, so I feel really let down.

Now I’m working with my dad in our family business. It’s OK, but I feel like I’ve failed.

After my alarm goes off, I lie in bed for ages willing myself to get up.

DEIDRE SAYS: Your former employers didn’t support you or make reasonable adjustments, which they are legally obliged to do.

But two years on, it would be best to try to look to the future. Lack of motivation and difficulty getting out of bed can be symptoms of depression.

Make a GP appointment and explain how you’re feeling.

Also look at the National Autistic Society’s website (autism.org.uk). It has information about employment issues.
