Frankie Essex: ‘I get upset with the amount of things I need to do – I’d love a nanny’

Former TOWIE star Frankie Essex gave birth to her twins, whom she shares with boyfriend Luke Love, last May and has since shared many updates while settling into life with babies Logan and Luella.

In her exclusive column for OK!, Frankie has discussed a range of topics related to motherhood – from her first social outing with the twins and a blackout at her home when they were just a few days old, to “feeling more human again” as the babies dropped their dreaded 2am feed.

This week, Frankie opens up about feeling overwhelmed with chores sometimes, how she celebrated King Charles' Coronation, and taking the twins to their first swimming lesson…

I can’t believe the twins are one this month!

I’m looking forward to the twins’ first birthday. It’s mental though because they don’t seem like they’re ready to be one. They seem too small! At baby sensory there’s a little girl who is only a couple of days younger than them, and she’s so big. She looks like a one year old, but Logan and Luella are still little babies. I mean, they were three weeks early so they were so little when they were born.

Luella’s really petite. She’s still in clothing for nine month olds.

My hair is going grey!

I said a while back that my hair is growing back, but it’s growing back grey. I have a proper strip of grey hair. It’s probably the stress of having two babies. I’m alright about it though. Luke has bits of grey hair too, but he’s had it since he was younger.

All the cleaning I have to do doesn't help with the stress, but sometimes you just feel like you have to be doing stuff. I got a bit upset about it all the other day. I'd love to have a cleaner just to do it all.

I'd also love a nanny. The celeb mums who go to things like the Met Gala are just living.

We had a major poonami incident

I had a nightmare the other day. Luke had just popped out and I was changing Luella to realise there were no baby wipes in the living room. Next thing you know she’s flipped round and Logan’s coming towards me.

There was poo all over the mat – I just didn’t know what to do. When Logan was getting closer, I just grabbed the closest blanket and put that over her and the soiled nappy, grabbed Logan and put him in the hallway, grabbed Luella by her arms because she was covered, and put her in the sink. I didn’t know what else to do!

It was a shambles: I was sweating. I couldn’t take her upstairs for a bath and leave Logan on his own downstairs. After all that Luke came home all chilled. He must have taken the slowest walk to the shops ever.

I had to throw the blanket away in the end. I couldn’t wash it, I just threw it. It was disgusting.

I feel really big at the moment

I’m feeling my size now. At first I wasn’t really bothered about it, but now that summer is coming round again, I can’t just wear leggings and a jumper.

I feel the biggest I’ve been. It’s not getting me down as such but, when we took the twins swimming, I didn’t even look at myself in my costume.

I haven’t weighed myself but I was looking in the Zara changing room mirrors and you know when you just feel big? The lighting was awful.

King Charles' Coronation

We went to Hamley’s the day after the Coronation and it was lovely. They went all out for the children. I ended up bumping into an old friend of mine who’s a mum influencer and it turns out her other half choreographed the dances for the Coronation. She went to the party! She was sitting a row away from King Charles. How amazing is that?

I got the twins all dressed up. Luke asked me if we were going to watch the concert and I was like, ‘Yeah?! I’ve been waiting all day!’. I didn’t go to any parties on the main day though because the weather was a bit sh*t.

A few days before the Coronation, we went to another little event and I met Rachel Riley, who dresses Princess Charlotte. The twins have worn some of her outfits as well, so the twins have worn the same brand some of the royals use.

We took the babies swimming for the first time

We took the babies swimming for the first time and they really enjoyed it. Logan keeps on crying when he gets in the bath at the moment. I don’t know why, I thought that he maybe just hates the bath water or something, but when we got into the pool with them they were loving it. The lesson we took them too is called Little Splashers, because kids obviously love splashing around.

We’re going to take them every week now because I really want them to be confident around water. I think it’s important. They’ll be having a lesson where the babies have to wear clothes so they know how it feels if they were to ever fall in.

I really recommend other parents to take their babies to lessons. Another thing that’s important is the pool being warm so it wasn’t a shock to the twins. The air was warm as well so when you got out, it wasn’t freezing.

They really loved it. It was money well spent!
