He’s made a name for himself as a much-loved member of the England football squad – and now Harry Kane is encouraging his young fans to channel their ‘inner lions’ too.

The England captain, 29, has picked his three children’s favourite book ‘The Lion Inside’ to read for his CBeebies Bedtime Story, which airs at 6.50pm on Monday and will be available on BBC iPlayer.

Rachel Bright’s best-selling storybook follows a shy little mouse who sets out on a journey to find his roar.

Harry, who says reading is ‘one of his favourite things to do’ with his three children, shares Ivy, five, Vivienne Jane, three, and Louis, one, with his childhood sweetheart wife Katie Goodland, 27.

Harry and his wife met as children when they both attended Chingford Foundation School in Waltham Forest.

During his appearance, the Tottenham Hotspur striker says: ‘One of my favourite things to do is sit down with my children before bedtime and read them a book.

‘I enjoy this quality time with them. They especially love the book The Lion Inside so they will be extremely excited to hear this!’

The footballer says he picked this story – featuring illustrations by Jim Field – as it reminds children that even the smallest creatures can have the heart of a lion.

As his Bedtime Story falls on World Mental Health Day this year, the footballer says the story is particularly fitting as it touches on themes of friendship, confidence and self-esteem.

The Lion Inside has sold over 200,000 copies in the UK since it was published in 2016 and has been translated into 30 languages worldwide.

Harry Kane isn’t the only athlete to appear on the popular CBeebies series; last year, Olympian Jessica Ennis-Hill read The Frog Olympics which has gone on to rack up over 55,000 views on YouTube.

The athletes follow in the footsteps of several famous faces including Orlando Bloom who sent fans into overdrive with his appearance on the show in 2018.

And other celebrities to read a Bedtime Story include Ryan Reynolds, actor Chris Evans, Regé-Jean Page, Felicity Jones, David Schwimmer, Alesha Dixon, Eddie Redmayne, Reece Witherspoon and Dolly Parton.

The Lion Inside, read by Harry Kane airs at 6.50pm on 10 October on CBeebies and will be available on BBC iPlayer.
