I am a new mum – I won lottery jackpot on the day I gave birth & here is the trick I used to pick my lucky numbers | The Sun

A NEW mum found fortune in more ways than one on the day she gave birth – as she scooped the jackpot on the lottery too.

Brenda Gomez Hernandez, 28, felt like the luckiest woman in the world when she welcomed her baby girl and £81,500 into her bank account on the same day.

Just hours after she went into labour and delivered her third child on November 9, the mum discovered she had won the life-changing sum.

The 28-year-old, from Concord, North Carolina, had purchased her lucky Powerball Quick Pick ticket for just £2.50.

And her success truly was a family affair – as Brenda revealed how she picked her winning numbers with the help of her two sons.

The housekeeper explained she had used the boy's birthdays when deciding her digits, which proved a stroke of genius.

Her ticket in the November 9 draw matched the numbers on four white balls and the Powerball, seeing her earn £41,000.

The mum-of-three's cash prize then doubled thanks to the 2X Power Play multiplier hit, according to the North Carolina State Lottery.

They said in a statement: "For Brenda Gomez Hernandez of Concord, 9th November will be a day she will never forget as, just hours after she went into labour and delivered a baby girl, a Powerball ticket delivered her a USD 100,000 prize.

"Hernandez, a 28-year-old housekeeper, matched numbers on four white balls and the Powerball to win $50,000 in the 9th November drawing.

"The prize doubled to $100,000 when the 2X Power Play multiplier hit."

Lotto officials revealed she had purchased her winning ticket from the QuikTrip on Warren C Coleman Boulevard in Concord.

Brenda is said to have officially claimed her prize on November 30 after getting her newborn settled in.

After paying the required tax withholdings, she took home £53,000.
