I can't help thinking the worst as I wait on my wife's results | The Sun

DEAR DEIDRE: I’M terrified the chest pains my wife is experiencing mean something serious and I will be left alone.

We have been married for 30 years. I am 65, she is 63.

My wife started experiencing these pains a few weeks ago.

She’s been to hospital to get it checked out and is waiting for the results.

I’m the only person who knows about it.

She doesn’t want to tell our two daughters and it’s getting me down because I’m dealing with the uncertainty really badly.

Our girls and my wife are the most important things in my life.

If I lose her, I fear I will be all alone as my children have their own lives on the other side of the country.

I should have made friends, people I could turn to outside of my home.

Now I realise without my wife, I have no one.

It’s all my fault.

DEIDRE SAYS:  It is natural to worry when life feels uncertain. But you’re getting ahead of yourself.

Bottling up your concerns will only intensify those negative feelings.

Please find someone you trust to talk to, perhaps your wife would consider allowing you to speak to your children?

You’ll feel so much relief to talk about what is on your mind. Or see a counsellor to help with your anxiety, which is leading you to think the worst.

My support packs Living With Anxiety and How Counselling Can Help give more advice.
