I tried Wahacas Christmas menu – the Mexican-style roast potatoes are amazing

Seeing as Wahaca is one of my favourite go-to places to eat when I'm in London, I was very excited when I got the chance to try out some of the new items on its Christmas menu this year.

I'm obsessed with the Mexican restaurant's sweet potato side, which comes in smoky caramelised garlic mojo de ajo and I also live for the Free Range Chicken Club Quesadilla. So when it came to trying some new dishes which have a Christmassy twist, I was very much up for it.

The new Wahaca Christmas menu, which is available from November 22-December 24, features a range of exciting new dishes – from Plantain and Chorizo Bites and Smoky Sonoran Hummus to start, to Christmas Ham Hock tacos and Golden Roast Cauliflower for the main event.

They don't forget dessert either, with Churros and Sprinkles on the menu, which is served with Gran Centenario tequila, Cazcabel coffee tequila, or a coffee of your choice.

The only thing is, if you're getting the full Christmas menu, you need to make sure there's six of you or more. So round up your mates and enjoy an epic feast together!

I tried out two of the main dishes from the menu as part of my taste test – the Christmas Ham Hock tacos and the Roast Potato Esquites.

Now I have to be honest, tacos aren't my favourite thing, so this wouldn't usually be my go-to dish. These tacos are soft too, and I prefer the crunchy ones. But I do love ham hock, so this was yummy, especially as it comes with a crispy crackling crown which gives you a surprising crunch you don't expect.

When it came to the potatoes though, I was sold. These were cooked how roasties should be – crispy and flavoursome – but they came with the added Mexican twist of charred corn, jalapeño allioli, crema and cheese. Delicious!

I washed down my food with a Blackberry Margarita, which sees the fruit mixed with tequila and lime for a fruity twist on the classic drink. There are tons of cocktails to chose from, like wine, cider or beer, mocktails and soft drinks. Or if you want to get the Christmas party started, why not order some tequila for the table?

The Christmas menu will cost you £35 per person, or if you have a smaller booking, you can check out the normal Wahaca menu which is just as tasty.

Happy festive feasting!
