I yearn for female company but people get the wrong idea | The Sun

DEAR DEIDRE: I WOULD love to have a female friend to meet up with for coffee and a chat, but nobody answers my advert in the local paper.

I am a 65-year-old man and a full-time carer for my wife. She is 63.

I left my job as a bus driver to care for her, but I am lonely.

Caring is much harder than the job I used to do.

Every day is the same. I get up and take our dogs for a walk, then I sit down to watch the telly.

I put an advert in our local newspaper saying that I was seeking females for companionship and included my phone number but so far nobody has responded.

I have tried talking to a man, but it doesn’t work for me.I feel more comfortable talking to women.

The problem is that if I talk to a woman, people think I’m having an affair.

I’m already beginning to lose my confidence. Where am I going wrong?

DEIDRE SAYS:  There’s nothing wrong with your advert – you simply haven’t met the right person yet.

Try to widen the horizons of your social life.

You’re more likely to meet women if you join local clubs and societies, rather than rely on the newspaper.

Try going online (meetup. com) to find activity groups.

The Carers Trust (carers.org, 0300 772 9600) helps carers to make a life of their own outside caring.

My support pack Help For Carers has plenty more information.
