Jamie Oliver and wife Jools’ incredible relationship from ‘marriage rules’ to vow renewal

Jamie Oliver and his wife Jools are one of those celebrity couples that seem to know how to avoid drama, and just generally get on with their family lives hassle-free.

The 47 year old has been with his partner, former model and writer Juliette Norton, 48, since they were both teenagers, but the pair decided to tie the knot back in July 2000. Which means this year, they’ll be coming up to their 23rd wedding anniversary.

So, with all those years under their belt, how have the couple managed to not rock the boat, and maintain such a successful marriage?

According to the pair, who have admitted it’s not always come up smelling of roses, they’ve revealed there are ‘marriage rules’ that they follow to not only keep the spark alive, but to ensure family life is put first.

Jamie and Jools have ‘marriage rules’

"He made sure [family time] was built into his diary," a source told The Sun.

"He might stay for a couple of beers at the end of the day, but there’s always a cut-off point so he can get home. His priority is family and business, in that order. For someone like Jamie, time is money so he’s had to juggle.”

"He often has a chauffeur waiting in a Range Rover so that he can get home as quickly as possible to be with Jools and the kids," they added.

Jamie also got candid about marriage, and the natural ups and downs that come with it when speaking on the Joe Wicks Podcast.

“Marriage is really hard, you are going to spend a proportion of it not liking your other half and vice versa,” he said.

He then explained that not holding grudges and being able to move on is especially important, and just “keeping at it” is a mantra that he and Jules follow.

Jamie also opened up about watching your other half grow older with you, revealing that he has “really enjoyed seeing Jools change throughout the years.”

Adding that he loves her “to bits” and he’s “really proud of the woman she has become” and is growing into, he concluded: “She's definitely my best mate.”

Despite their obstacles, the couple have come out on the other side

Many people will remember Jamie’s restaurant chain going into administration back in 2019. After the collapse of the business, his flagship London restaurant was emptied by bailiffs, 22 out of his 25 restaurants were forced to close and 1,300 people were left out of a job.

In spite of the business troubles, the couple remained rock solid, and a year later, revealed they were planning on renewing their vows.

While their plans were halted due to the pandemic – and Jamie also revealing Jools had suffered from long COVID – the already-husband and wife managed to recreate their dream wedding this year, and enjoyed an intimate ceremony in the Maldives over the Easter weekend.

Their vow renewal was “as you would have dreamed”

Jamie took to his Instagram to announce that he and Jools had got married again.

Sharing stunning photos of the event to his Instagram, he captioned the post: “Morning all, Me & @joolsoliver got married again ! Yep After 23 years together, we thought it would be a special moment to celebrate renewing our wedding vows before the kids all start leaving the nest.”

“It was really special, funny and romantic with the words in the ceremony making more sense having come this far together.”

The images show the second-time newlyweds on a tiny island surrounded by their kids, Poppy, 21, Daisy, 20, Petal, 14, Buddy, 12, and River, six, all of whom wore white, apart from Jamie, who donned a replica suit from the couple’s first wedding as a touching tribute to their almost quarter of a century relationship.
