Kristen Bell explains how telling her kids about doing mushrooms ‘backfired’
There’s nothing like crackin’ open a cold one with your kids — as long as it’s non-alcoholic, of course.
During Monday’s episode of “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” Kristen Bell revealed that her daughters — Delta, 8, and Lincoln, 9 — like to occasionally drink non-alcoholic beers.
While the 43-year-old admitted that it “sounds insane,” she explained that the girls’ affinity for the beverage began when they were younger and would accompany her and husband Dax Shepard on walks around the neighborhood.
“He’s a recovering addict,” she said of Shepard. “But he likes non-alcoholic beer, so he’d pop one open, he’d have [our oldest daughter] on his chest, and we’d walk and look at the sunset.”
“As a baby, she was pawing at it, and sometimes she’d suck on the rim of it,” she continued. “So, I think it feels to her like something special, something daddy, something family.”
While she clarified that all of the beers her husband consumed had absolutely “no alcohol,” she said it does get a little awkward in restaurants sometimes.

“We’ve been at restaurants where she’s said, ‘Do you have any non-alcoholic beer?’ And I’m like, ‘Maybe we just keep that for home time,’” the “Veronica Mars” actress joked.
“But then I’m sort of like, ‘You can judge me if you want, I’m not doing anything wrong,’” she added. “That’s your problem.”
The couple, who have been married since 2013, have never shied away from telling their kids about Shepard’s struggles with addiction.
In fact, in February the “Frozen” star told Real Simple that she “hates the word ‘taboo’” and believes “there should be no topic that’s off the table for people to talk about.”
While some people might find her parenting style “shocking,” she said that is just what works for their family of four.
The “Armchair Expert” co-host, 48, has been sober for almost two decades — despite a brief relapse in 2020.
Following the setback, Shepard bought drug tests for their home so that the “Good Place” actress could test him whenever she felt “nervous” about his sobriety.
