Love Island’s Laura Whitmore dons vintage Versace jumpsuit from eBay for series finale

Love Island host Laura Whitmore has taken this year’s sustainability message to heart as she opted for a stunning pre-loved Versace outfit to host the ITV2 series' finale.

The colourful jumpsuit, which was sourced via eBay, comes from the designer’s Spring/Summer 2019 ready to wear collection, and features a spaghetti strapped bright blue bodice with yellow, white and pink florals, before darkening to a black floral printed fabric from the waist down.

Taking inspiration from Gianni Versace's 1993 collection, the jumpsuit's floral print featured a series of multi coloured flowers in varying sizes, while a tiered flamenco style pant leg added a touch of drama.

Not one for the faint of heart, the bold outfit choice also featured slits that extended well above the knee.

Sharing a post on Instagram about her outfit choice ahead of the finale, Laura wrote: “Right let’s do this…. I found this preloved Archive @versace scrolling through @ebay_uk and knew it was my finale look!! Me and @emmalanestylist had a lot of fun planning this one! Now get me in that villa and let’s crown the winners.”

Completing her look with a casual half 'do that continued with the floral theme, Laura accented her blonde locks with a series of tiny flower embellishments in pastel colours as she prepared to announce this year’s long awaited winning couple.

Throughout the latest series of Love Island, sustainability has been at the top of the agenda.

In years gone by, the show had been synonymous with fast fashion powerhouses such as Missguided and I Saw It First, and promoting a conveyor belt of disposable outfits that accompany the associated baggage of ethical and ecological concerns that often accompany low price, mass produced garments in the fast fashion market.

In an effort to knock this attitude on the head for 2022, Love Island elected to partner with eBay and kit its contestants out in the best and brightest pre-loved outfits in a bid to encourage a greener and more eco-friendly production.

Adopting a mantra of ‘eat, sleep, rewear and repeat’, eBay provided the villa with a shared wardrobe, meaning every item of clothing could be given a second life thanks to the production, and it’s a small change that show boss Mike Spencer hopes will encourage viewers at home to be more conscious in their choices too.

He said: “As a show we strive to be a more eco-friendly production with more focus on ways in which we can visibly show this on screen…. We aim to inspire our demographic and show that there are incredible finds to be had and how sharing is, in some small way, caring.”
