Major banks to close 80 more branches this year – see the full list | The Sun

TWO major banks will close 80 more branches this year.

Lloyds Banking Group and rival NatWest will both be shutting the doors of yet another raft of bank branches in 2023.

At Lloyds Banking Group, affected brands include Halifax, Lloyds Bank and Bank of Scotland.

While both Natwest and branches of its sister bank Royal Bank of Scotland will shut too.

The closures come as major high street banks opt to transition more of their banking services online.

Data from LINK, the UK's largest cash machine network, shows when banks are set to close over the next five months.

Banks across the country have scaled back their branch networks.

The number of people using in-person services has been falling for years as more and more people do their banking online.

This increased during the pandemic, as some of those who had stuck to bank branches were forced to learn how to bank from home.

A Lloyds Banking Group spokesperson said: “Our customers are increasingly using digital channels to manage their money – we now have over 20 million regular digital users so it’s important we continue to develop the online services our customers want to use.

Lloyds Banking Group already announced a raft of closures for this year following closures last year.

In January, the banking giant revealed 40 branches would be lost from the UK's high street.

It said it would close 18 Halifax sites and 22 Lloyds branches between April and June this year.

That adds to 64 closures announced since the beginning of the year, with Barclays and TSB saying they will shut 24 sites between them.

And just this week, Barclays said it would shut more than a dozen banks this year as well.

The bank is set to close branches across England and Wales, with sites in Cambridge, Llandeilo and Holmes Chapel among those affected.

All of the branches are set to close their doors in June.
