Major supermarket offering extra cash bonus for anyone using free school meal vouchers – how to get it | The Sun

A MAJOR supermarket is offering an extra cash bonus for shoppers using free school meal vouchers.

Iceland is boosting the value of the vouchers when they're redeemed in its 900 stores.

Shoppers who redeem the vouchers at any of the supermarket's Food Warehouse's 150 shops will also get a boost.

Those eligible for free school meals will receive a £15 voucher per child for the half term week from their schools or local councils.

Shoppers that choose to spend their free school meal voucher at Iceland and scan their Bonus Card at checkout will receive £2 in cash back.

The cash back is loaded automatically onto the customer's loyalty card and can be used towards their next shop.

And remember, you'll only get the cash back when using your Bonus Card.

Unlike other stores, it is a prepaid card which you load money on to and then spend in a store, online shop or via the supermarket's app.

Every time you load £20 onto your card, you’ll receive £1 from Iceland.

On top of this customers with a Bonus Card get exclusive members-only prices on select products.

It's important to note that your card will expire if it goes unused for more than 24 months.

Richard Walker, executive chairman at Iceland, said: "Supporting families continues to be a high priority for Iceland.

"With this in mind, we’re keen to help ease pressures on families during the half term period through not only providing additional value to this excellent Government scheme, but also reminding and encouraging families to use these vouchers over the break."

Who can get free school meals?

Children whose parents claim certain benefits are eligible to receive free school meals:

  • Working Tax Credit run-on – paid for four weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
  • Universal Credit

If your child receives free school meals during term time then they will be entitled to vouchers during the holidays also.

However, check with your local council as this can change between areas.

You can apply for free school meals through your local authority's website.

You'll have to check with them directly to see if any of the supermarkets didn't make the cut on your specific voucher.
