MasterChef: The Professionals viewers joked they ‘could have served something better’ than a chef who ‘went to pieces’ during last night’s heats.

Ola, 33, who works as the Head Chef for a London sporting venue, appeared on the latest episode of the hit BBC series.

The experienced chef – who was born in Nigeria – got off to a difficult start when he was tasked with making caramelised parsnips, miso pumpkin seed sauce and pickled pears in just 20 minutes. 

After he served a partially raw parsnip and overpowering miso sauce, judges Monica Galetti admitted that it was ‘not a great start’ while Marcus Wareing added: ‘I want to see you deliver the basics right.’

Unfortunately for Ola, things only got worse in the signature challenge, where the four contestants were asked to make a main and dessert in 90 minutes.

For this task, Ola wanted to showcase his love of Nigerian cooking and attempted a cannon of goat, heart and kidney faggot, roasted parsnips and cardamon puree. 

As for the dessert, Ola set out to make a frangipane using a Nigerian almond substitute and a dark chocolate cremeux served with macarated strawberries and celery.

Although Marcus was confidant that Ola’s dessert would be ‘delicious’, the chef struggled his this time management – after previously admitting that he’d given himself ‘a lot to do’.    

After realising that his frangipane hadn’t cooked in time, Ola told judge Gregg Wallace: ‘I’m rethinking everything right now.’

Before serving up his main, Ola was also forced to scrap the goat’s spice crumb – prompting Marcus to point out how the chef had ‘lost his way’ in the competition.

Before tasting the meal, Gregg said: ‘We can clearly see that your timing went to pieces because you haven’t completed the dish the way you wanted to and we also haven’t got a dessert at all, have we?’  

Taking issue with the dryness of the meat and the sweet sauce, Monica added: ‘I’m disappointed for you because it had great potential and I love the way your menu was sounding.’

Viewers on Twitter were similarly unimpressed – with several joking that they could have done a better job.

One replied: ‘Sometimes I joke about it but this time I genuinely think I could have served up something better than that.’

Another added: ‘My corned beef hash would have exceeded anything they’ve cooked tonght.’

‘I think I could have buttered some bread and got through this heat,’ a third joked.

‘Two of these chefs wouldn’t even make Little Chef,’ a fourth said.  

Meanwhile, a fifth added: ‘These chefs are stressing me out. Why have none of them got good time management skills?’

Sadly, Ola didn’t make it through to the next round and he later said to camera that he was disappointed in his performance.

‘I am sad and disappointed in myself because I know what I’m capable of,’ he said. ‘I haven’t put my best out there.’ 

Earlier this year, Gregg Wallace refused to eat a comedian’s dish on Celebrity MasterChef after discovering the meat was raw. 

The pressure appeared to get too much for comedian Marcus Brigstocke who was sent packing after he served up a plate of raw pork.

For the final task of that week, the wannabe chefs were challenged to create ‘airline’ style food. 

And whilst the rest of the contestants served up first-class dishes, Marcus seemed to fall at the last hurdle.

Judge Greg Wallace refused to eat the cuisine in awkward scenes that aired as he dissected the pink meat with his fork.
