On Wednesday, March 8, Meghan Markle marked International Women’s Day by visiting Harvest Home, an organisation that helps provide housing, mental well-being support, and classes to expectant mothers who have faced challenges. On the same day, the Duchess was seen leaving the West Hollywood restaurant Gracias Madre, where she had been for brunch with a few friends. As she headed to her car, Meghan was approached by a few photographers. An assistant was with her, but instead of helping Meghan hide from the paparazzi, the assistant was the one hiding – and Meghan was the one ensuring she was okay.
It seemed Meghan didn’t mind that she was getting photographed, and even spoke to one of the photographers.
The photographer said: “Hey Meghan, happy International Women’s Day, you look great by the way.”
Meghan replied “thank you”, before turning around to her assistant, who had stepped behind her, as if hiding from the cameras.
It seemed that the Duchess was making sure her assistant was okay and that she wasn’t overwhelmed by the photographers.
Meghan then waved at the paparazzi and said, “have a good day guys, thank you”, before stepping into her car.
Body language expert Judi James analysed the moment and gave her professional opinion on Meghan’s actions – focusing on the Duchess’ relationship with her assistant.
Judi said: “Meghan’s behaviour with her assistant here is interesting.
“As they walk together up towards the cameras it’s the assistant who opts to step behind Meghan and out of view.

“She also keeps her head down and seems keen to ensure it’s Meghan they [the photographers] get the shots of, which does imply Meghan is not uncomfortable or unhappy with being snapped in the US, or else she might try to form a barrier from the cameras.”
Judi continued: “Meghan goes to walk on but her instinctive reaction does seem to be to check her assistant is okay and put an arm out to urge her forward towards the car.
“It’s the assistant who puts her arm out to override Meghan and get her to carry on first before seeing her safely in the car.”
For brunch, as well as the visit to Harvest Home, the Duchess looked chic in an all-black look.
Meghan donned a long, black coat called the “Lilia” Cashmere Coat in Black by Max Mara, which she has worn on many occasions in the past. Costing £3,390, this coat is still available to buy on Max Mara’s website.
Its description read: “The ultimate cardigan coat by Max Mara in double hand-stitched pure sable cashmere is a must-have. Straight cut with a raised collar, kimono sleeves, patch pockets and a matching belt.”
It is also available to buy in Light Grey, Tobacco, and Sand. Meghan matched this garment with a black jumper and a pair of slim black trousers.
Her wool jumper, which she had tucked into her straight-leg trousers was ribbed and featured a round neckline.
The trousers were simple with featured buttons from below the knee down to the hemline.
While out and about, Meghan also carried a black and white bag, which was the Chanel 19 Stitch Bag from the iconic designer’s 2021 collection. The bag was large and white, with black stitches embroidered in zig-zags across it.
Among her jewellery was the Cartier Gold Tank Francaise Watch, which was Princess Diana’s £17,000 watch. Meghan inherited the valuable piece when she married Prince Harry in 2018.
She also wore a pair of large sunglasses, and her hair was tied back in a stylish bun at the nape of her neck.
