An Asda shopper has said she was "taken aback" when a kind worker at the supermarket stepped in after noticing she was crying with her child.

Staff member Sue, who works in the Grange Road store in Ellesmere Port, Liverpool, was approached by a woman to see if a £20 note she had just taken out for her electric bill was handed in to staff.

When Sue told the customer, who had young children, nothing had been handed in the woman became "upset".

However, kind-hearted Sue, who has worked for the supermarket giant for 25 years, stepped in, according to Liverpool Echo.

Adele, the store's community champion, said: "The lady has young children, so when Sue asked her what she had needed the money for, the lady replied ‘for electric’.

"Sue, out of the kindness of her own heart, then replied ‘follow me' and took her to the cashpoint in the store, took £10 from her own bank account, and gave it to the customer."

The woman was said to be taken aback by Sue's gesture and went back to the store the following say.

Adele added: "The lady was taken aback by her kindness. She was so grateful that she returned to store the next day to give Sue back her £10."

Sue’s manager Caroline added: “I am so proud of Sue and her amazing random act of kindness, you are such a credit to our store.”

Caroline has now nominated Sue for an Asda service superstar award.‍

The story comes after Asda hit headlines recently for less heart-warming news as as kid's top from it's fashion brand George caused a stir.

Mum Brianna, 32, was shopping for children's clothes in the George section of her local Walmart in Ontario, Canada, when she spotted a T-shirt which 'had the word c**t hidden in it'.

The top has now been removed after the backlash.
