My brother’s chaotic behaviour makes me worry about his future | The Sun

DEAR DEIDRE: MY brother’s erratic behaviour is making me so scared for his future.

I’m his 37-year-old sister and he’s 31.

Since his late teens he’s had problems with drugs and alcohol.

He has seizures which make him hallucinate.

Sometimes he says he sees the devil, and sometimes he sees the devil in me and then he’s afraid of me.

He has stints in hospital and they discharge him saying he’s well enough to go home, but he’s not safe.

He is unreliable and doesn’t take care of anything. He’s lost countless phones.

This week he had an appointment with his therapist but, once again, he had no phone so could not be reached.

I’m trying to work but this situation is relentless. When’s it going to stop?

I’m his sister, not his carer.

The only way he will get clean of drugs and alcohol is if he wants to change. You can’t make him.

You can find help and support through We Are With You (wearewithyou.org.uk) who help those who are addicted to drugs and alcohol as well as their families and friends
