My husband won't pull his weight and see's housework as a woman's job | The Sun

DEAR DEIDRE: MY husband expects a big fan fare any time he lifts a finger.

If I don’t heap praise on him, he has a proper moan.

I’m a 69-year-old woman and he’s 67.

We worked a long time into our 60s. I ran our family newsagent and my husband was a carpenter.

I always did the housework as I’d get home first. Now we are both at home, I realise how little he did.

He was great if I wanted a shelf putting up but if I wanted him to do some dusting, he’d think of it as “woman’s work”.

I asked him to vacuum the stairs yesterday and when he finished, he said, “Come and have a look and admire a pro! Now can I get back to my football?”.

All he does all day is watch TV.

He never recognises how hard I work. He always has a full stomach and clean clothes.

What thanks do I get?

He’s rude and snappy these days, especially if I’m not ‘grateful’ for something he’s done.

If I was 50 years younger, I’d leave him.

DEIDRE SAYS:  It’s sad that your retirement together seems so unhappy.

Ask that he draws up a division of the chores.

Explain to him the jobs aren’t gender related but you can share them so you can both live cleanly and comfortably while enjoying down time.

My support pack called Standing Up For Yourself will help you to get the message across.
