Indignation was widespread and the public is demanding answers after a Panama City beachgoer shared a startling video of a group of men riding a 6-foot shark after pulling it from the water as onlookers cheered on.

The video, posted by Tammy Scott on a Facebook group called ‘I Love Panama City Beach’ on Sunday, shows a group of seven men working together to pull the shark in and hold it down before one man started riding the big shark like a cowboy.

Other photos from the Florida beach showed multiple men sitting on top of the animal.

The shark can be seen struggling to get free, thrashing around in the water, as the audience laughs in the background. At one point, the shark’s fin appears to slap the behind of the man who ended up riding the animal, which caused him to trip.

The video caused public outrage, generating hundreds of comments online. ‘SICKO boy riding it like a cowboy, instead of unhooking the shark and letting it go. Humans are the biggest threat to the planet,’ one user wrote.

Another Facebook user said ‘Stupid idiots too bad he didn’t get a good long ride out in the ocean and turned into supper. and more idiots standing around laughing. Leave nature alone people!!!’

Others argued the scene was a common occurrence along the Florida beach and not a cause of concern.

‘People everyone speculate that they were doing something wrong, did you think maybe they were trying to help it out since it floated on shore? Don’t always assume the bad!’ one user wrote in defense.

It’s unclear whether the men were fishing and caught the shark on purpose or if they were trying to help the shark by unhooking it and setting it free.

Scott said both the shark and the people involved appeared unharmed following the incident, according to AL.

Dailymail.com contacted Panama City Beach police but officials did not respond in time for this reprot.
