DEAR DEIDRE: MY partner is a smoker and doesn’t drive – two things I never wanted in a relationship.
He’s 42 and tight with money. He earns way more than I do but pays very little toward the bills.
I’m 35 and have my own house.
He’s asked if I would put his name on the deeds but I saved up the deposit on my own and he’s not contributing much. So why should I?
He has a son and I have two daughters. I have to do all the driving all of the time. I don’t drink or smoke and couldn’t afford to if I wanted to.
He washes up. He puts the bins out, but he only pays £200 towards the bills and food and almost all of my wages go on the mortgage, utilities, food, running the car and buying our clothes.
I’m fed up.

Having his name on the deeds implies he wants to lay claim on your property, but you may prefer your daughters to inherit your property when you die.
Explain that his £200 just isn’t enough of a contribution to help cover the bills.
