Neighbours reveals Chris Pappas' return storyline as he comes back in final week

Chris Pappas (James Mason) will stage his comeback during Neighbours’ final ever week, as he returns to Ramsay Street with daughter Annie in tow.

The former mainstay, who made history as Neighbours’ first ever regular gay character, will return to Erinsborough just in time for the show’s final episodes.

Lucy Robinson (Melissa Bell) is delighted to see both Chris and their daughter Annie upon their arrival, and they even receive a warm welcome from Paul (Stefan Dennis) too.

Paul, as viewers will soon find out, is considering selling his hotel chain to Shane Ramsay (Peter O’Brien) and moving to New York, with David and Leo Tanaka (Takaya Honda and Tim Kano) deciding to join him.

Will the entire Robinson ultimately join Chris when he returns to the US?

That remains to be seen.

Chris, as fans will recall, featured in Neighbours for five years, appearing between 2010 and 2015.

As one of the students of Erinsborough High, he befriended several of the show’s then mainstays, including Andrew Robinson (Jordan Patrick Smith) and Summer Hoyland (Jordy Lucas), before dating the latter.

Chris soon realised that he was gay, in a storyline that received a positive response from both audiences and critics at the time, and he later came out to girlfriend Summer.

The character embarked on a romance with Nurse Aidan Foster (Bob Morley), with the two becoming Neighbours’ first gay couple.

Chris and Aidan later broke up.

Over the next couple of years, Chris would feature in a number of huge storylines, including a homophobic attack, and relationships with Nate Kinski and Hudson Walsh.

He later fathered a child, Annie, with pal Lucy, and subsequently decided to leave Erinsborough to be a full-time father, with his final scenes airing in 2015.

It was confirmed earlier this year that Chris would be one of several characters who would stage a comeback for Neighbours’ final episodes, after the soap was controversially axed by Channel 5, despite being a ratings success.

One to watch: Thursday July 28 at 1:45pm and 6pm on Channel 5.
