Newlyweds have been trolled for serving their guests McDonald’s during their big day.

Thomas Billaudeau, 27, and his wife, Ophélie, 25, from Paris, France, opted to serve the unconventional meal instead of forking out thousands on the traditional three course dinner for guests.

Groom Thomas posted the video on TikTok, tagging McDonald’s Beauvais Tille in the caption.

The clip, which racked up 2.3 million views, was captioned: ‘Thanks for the treat at our wedding.’

In the video, the bride takes the microphone and motions to the back of the room, as everyone turns around, they cheer after seeing a McDonald’s delivery driver.

The happy couple ordered more than 300 burgers, wraps, and nuggets from the popular fast food chain for their wedding guests.

However when the groom, who works as a photographer, shared a clip of the celebration on social media, the couple were hit with backlash.

Viewers took to the comments section of the video to criticise the newlyweds for their choices.

People criticised the couple for not serving their guests ‘quality food’ and for being ‘cheap’.

One person wrote: ‘Given the price of McDonald’s now it’s better to take a caterer and you’ll have quality as well.’

Another said: ‘Guys stop! it’s not a question of going to the wedding for the food. But McDonald’s, what?’

However the couple have since defended their decision to local media. They told reporters that they did it because ‘it was cheaper’ and wanted food everyone liked.

The bride, who works as a marketing assistant, told Le Parisien newspaper: ‘We looked at the price of some caterers but I am a fussy eater.

‘I was afraid that we were going to pay for something that we did not like. If you are going to pay, you may as well get something you like.’

Others defended the couple saying they thought it was better than splashing out thousands on one meal.

One person said: ‘I’d rather eat McDonald’s at my wedding than go into debt for 25 years for a wedding.’

Another said: ‘Finally, people who have the wedding they want to have without going into debt to show off. Be happy!’

Someone else said: ‘I love people, they don’t understand that a real marriage must reflect the image of the bride and groom, I think it’s good as long as they are happy.’
