Crispy seaweed is a must-have in most households when it comes to ordering a Chinese takeaway.

But people have just discovered that their all-time favourite side dish is lacking one key ingredient, seaweed.

Angelica Jells from London shared a recipe TikTok exposing what crispy seaweed is often actually made from, and people feel deceived.

The food content creator shared that the main ingredient can be any leafy green vegetable, such as cabbage.

To achieve the fish taste, ground friend tuna is sprinkled on top of the vegetable of choice.

While this might come as a surprise, it does make the delicious dish easier to replicate at home.

So the idea of crispy seaweed not actually being made of seaweed really baffled me, i felt lied to! I had to recreate it, and it was honestly so easy, all you need is green leaves and some seasonings! The fish flavour actually comes from ground fried tuna, which is just crazy to me! Making this instantly gave me all the nostalgia and reminded me of Chinese takeaways i used to eat as a kid!🥡🥢 Fry the leaves at 180 degrees Use the cheapest farmers greens from tesco ect, its nothing fancy, you can use cabbage if you can’t find leaves✌🏾 #chinese #chinesetakeaway #recipe #recipeinspo #cooking #fresh #homemade #tuna #healthy #chef

After shredding up your vegetable of choice, you simply fry the leaves for a couple of minutes before scooping it out, adding sugar, salt, MSG, and optional ground fried fish – a condiment available from Asian grocery stores.
