A dating coach has revealed five things he thinks boyfriends should be doing for their partners as a ‘bare minimum’ – including taking them out on a date at least once a week.

UK-based Jacob Lucas describes himself as having ‘helped millions of people get the love life they have always wanted through his real-life methods’.

As well as working directly with clients, he makes dating content on TikTok, where he has some 730,000 followers.

In a recent viral video, which garnered more than 3.3million views, Jacob outlined five things he thinks boyfriends should do for their partners in heterosexual relationships.

Among them were being responsive on the phone and being their partner’s biggest cheerleader.

Speaking in the video, Jacob says: ‘I’m a professional dating coach, and [these are] five things that your boyfriend should be doing for you that are the bare minimum.’

Outlining the five behaviours, he says: ‘Number one, he should be good with his phone.

‘You should not have to ask a full grown man to return your calls or your text. When he’s available, he should do that.’

The second behaviour he lists is spending time together – specifically going out on dates.

He says: ‘Number two, he should take you on a date at least once a week unless you are in a long distance relationship. People might say that’s a lot but I’m telling you know, it’s really not.’

Jacob continues: ‘Number three, your boyfriend should be your biggest cheerleader. If he’s not, something’s not right, trust me.’

Meanwhile, the fourth thing he says all boyfriends should do for their partners is being able to communicate what his schedule is, this means couples can ‘actually plan [their] life with each other’.

One of the behaviours Jacob listed in his video was that people who are in a relationship or dating should go out together at least once a week (unless they are in a long distance relationship)

‘It’s really not that hard for him to do this’, according to the dating coach.

Finally, listing the fifth behaviour on his list, Jacob says: ‘He should always make you feel wanted.’

The dating expert asked viewers to share their thoughts in the comments section.

Dating coach’s 5 things boyfriends should do

1. Be responsive on the phone.

2. Take their partner out on a date at least once a week.

3. Be your biggest cheerleader.

4. Communicate his schedule.

5. Always make you feel wanted.

A common theme that emerged was that many couples do not go out on a date every week.

One commentator explained: ‘My fiancé does 4 out of 5 things! The date one, we go once a month because of the money and the 2nd we work opposite shifts.’

Another added: ‘A date once a week? In this economy?’

But a third suggested that dating does not have to be a drain on finances, writing: ‘Weekly dates don’t need to be expensive!! make dinner together, watch a movie, go on a walk together. it’s about quality time not cost.’

In a follow-up video to his initial viral clip, Jacob listed a further five behaviours he believes boyfriends should or shouldn’t do.

Speaking in the clip, he says they should not flirt with other women – and ‘do not entertain other women who try to flirt with them.

He goes on to explain that ‘if they do, it’s very disrespectful to you and your relationship’.

Jacob continues: ‘Number two, he does his fair share of housework. You should not have to ask a full grown man to clean up after himself.’

A number of commentators on the video said that going on one date a week was too pricey or time consuming – but others pointed out that spending time together doesn’t have to involve an expensive activity

Number three is that ‘he takes a genuine interest in your life’.

According to the dating coach: ‘He wants to know how your day went, he takes an interest in your friends, your family, your job, everything.’

The fourth one he lists is that ‘when you are expressing your feelings to him, he should listen to you and not be dismissive’.

Jacob explains: ‘So many people do not do this and it’s really bad for relationships if they don’t.’

The final behaviour to make the list is simply that ‘as your boyfriend he should be giving you affection’.
