A 'real-life' mermaid revealed her nifty hacks that ensure her makeup doesn't budge underwater.

Professional entertainer Grace Page, 31, loves to spend her time swimming around a tank as the mythical creature.

That means the owner of Hire a Mermaid UK, from Reading, knows a thing about the do's and don'ts of the eccentric career.

As well as mastering breathing techniques and expertly avoiding chlorine riddled hair, Grace has learned how to keep her glam face on while submerged.

At first, the mermaid was 'surprised' about how many waterproof mascaras don't actually do what they say on the tin.

Speaking in an exclusive interview on Daily Star's My Colourful Life series, she shared some tips and tricks to look camera ready underwater.

"You’ll be surprised at how many waterproof mascaras are not waterproof in the slightest," Grace claimed.

"I have tried and tested many many many and now I kind of have my short list of makeup products that are genuinely waterproof.

"But, there’s also certain sprays like Kryolan that you can use to waterproof even non-waterproof makeup.

    "I wouldn’t recommend it.

"I’d always recommend doing waterproof makeup first and then Kryolan over the top."

Grace has starred in ITV game show Apocalypse Now and is booked by aquariums to swim with fish for amazed onlookers.

She's even represented the UK when she competed in the World Mermaid Championships in China.

"I've had a lot of really amazing moments," Grace gushed.

"So it's really hard to pick the best.

"Certainly doing my first aquarium shows were amazing but part of it would have had to be when I was representing the UK in the World Mermaid Championships.

"I kind of had this moment of 'I'm in China' and they put all of our pictures on cars.

"And getting to perform in this massive tank and representing my country, yeah that was a really surreal and amazing moment."

But being a mermaid isn't always so glamourous – it can be very dangerous at times.

Grace previously shared with us that she had to rescue a fellow mermaid from an incident in the tank, and being on land isn't much safer while in the silicone tail either.

She explained that having your legs strapped in makes you vulnerable and open to be trampled on.

And underwater comes with its own stack of concerns.

"Swimming with a monofin and free-diving are sports in their own right, being in a mermaid tail is no different and comes with a list of dangers as every sport does," she explained.

"You’re under water for long periods of time so there are risks of hypoxia and if you’re going too deep down you can get lung squeeze and ear squeeze.

"Even worse, ruptures from the pressure of the water.

"So there are lots of dangers to being a mermaid.

"And even just being on land because you’re trapped, you can’t move, you can’t walk so you can get trampled on, knocked over and people can take advantage of the fact you can’t move."
