Letizia was wearing a long, hot pink dress underneath a classy beige overcoat, which was paired with a set of heels of a similar hue.

She was also holding a wonderfully colourful floral handbag.

Felipe was received with military honours by President Frank-Walter Steinmeier on Monday at the German head of state’s Bellevue palace in Berlin.

He said Germany and Spain are ‘united by the principles of freedom, democracy and the rule of law.’

Felipe added: ‘Finally we’re here – we’re very happy about that.’

The couple will also attend a German-Spanish forum that will address issues such as the transition to a greener future and digitization.

Felipe and Steinmeier are due to open the Frankfurt Book Fair together on Tuesday.

Spain is the guest of honor at this year’s fair, which runs until Sunday.

‘We hope it will help promote even more the Spanish language and culture as a vehicle for mutual understanding between our two peoples,’ Felipe told reporters at the presidential palace.

It came as Queen Letizia dazzled in a vibrant red gown as she took to the red carpet with King Felipe at the presidential Bellevue Palace in Berlin yesterday evening.

The Queen recycled the scarlet gown from Stella McCartney as she attended a banquet at which she and the King were guests of honour during their three-day royal tour of Germany.

She paired the gown with dangling diamond earrings while wearing her brunette locks in a sophisticated updo.

She opted for smokey eye to give her outfit an evening look, paired with her signature shimmering nude pink lip.

This is the royals’ first official trip to Germany since December 2014.

As part of their visit, the King and Queen will also visit the German-Spanish Forum, an art exhibition to see the collection of the Helga de Alvear Museum at the Palais Populair, and the Frankfurt Book Fair as engagements the royals would undertake separately.
