Supermarket Easter Bank Holiday 2023 opening times: Are Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury's and Aldi open today? | The Sun

BANK holiday shoppers may be wondering what time supermarkets are open over the Easter period.

Most retailers will be closed for certain days in order to give staff some much-needed time off.

Easter Sunday falls on April 9 this year, with Good Friday on April 7 and Easter Monday on April 10.

Usually shops will stay open for Good Friday (April 7) and Easter Monday (April 10) which are bank holidays, but it's best to check their websites to be sure.

Government rules mean stores in England and Wales larger than 280 square metres have to close on Easter Sunday.

Stores that are smaller can open but may have a change to hours because of the celebrations.

Heres's what each supermarket is doing.

Tesco

Tesco will be pulling the shutters down on its large stores in England, Northern Ireland and Wales on Easter Sunday, April 9.

This is because shops in England and Wales larger than 280 square metres have to close on Easter Sunday and Christmas Day, under Government rules.

Sundays trading laws stipulate that any stores that choose to remain open can only do so for six consecutive hours between 10am and 6pm.

Tesco stores in Scotland will open in line with Sunday trading hours.

The supermarket chain has also announced that many of its large stores will be operating reduced hours on Easter Monday too.

It said that the majority of its Express stores will remain open on the Sunday, and all shops will return to normal trading hours on the Monday.

On Good Friday, many of its stores will be open as usual but those that are normally open late will close earlier at 10pm.

But these aren't guaranteed opening hours and will vary depending on the shop.

Aldi

Aldi is closing 890 stores in England and Wales on April 9.

As for the surrounding days, branches will be open between 8am and 10pm on Good Friday

The day before Easter shops are open from 8am to 10pm and then from 8am to 8pm on Easter Monday.

Sainsbury's

Sainsbury's confirmed 600 of its big stores in England and Wales will be closed on Easter Sunday.

Branches in Scotland will open in line with Sunday trading hours – do check your local store times if that's where you're based.

However, the supermarket's 800 UK-wide convenience stores will remain open as usual from 7am to 10pm.

Its opening times will range between 6am and 11pm on Good Friday, 6am to 11pm on Easter Saturday, and 7am to 10pm on Easter Monday.

Morrisons

Morrisons is pulling the shutters down on every branch in England and Wales on Easter Sunday, but Scottish stores will stay open as usual.

Over the rest of the weekend, every Morrisons branch will be open between 7am and 10pm on Good Friday and 7am to 8pm Easter Monday.

Meanwhile, stores will be operating their normal opening hours on April 8, the Saturday before Easter Sunday.

Asda

Almost all Asda stores will be shut on April 9.

This only excludes Scottish stores, which will remain open.

Opening times will vary across the country, but for the most part both Good Friday and Easter Saturday will have opening hours between 7am and 10pm.

Stores should be open between 7am and 8pm on Easter Monday.

Iceland

Iceland stores will be closed for the most part on April 9.

Exceptions include Swift, Scottish Core, the Food Warehouse stores – but it's best to check your local branches if you were planning to go.

All stores should be open as usual during the surrounding days, but do still check online in case your local one is different.

Co op

Co op has said all big stores in England and Wales will be closed on Easter Sunday, subject to the government rules.

However, stores will be open as usual over the weekend.

Do remember to double check the website first, and don't forget added delivery costs if you decide to order home too.
