It’s bewildering to think that the last time the Logie Awards were on COVID wasn’t a thing, RAT was a rodent not an acronym, and “iso” had yet to enter the national lexicon.
It was back in June 2019 when Hard Quiz host Tom Gleeson won the Gold Logie for most popular personality on Australian television. Little did we know he would be the reigning champion for a further two years.

The pandemic triggered the cancellation of both the 2020 and 2021 ceremonies, but now the Logies are finally back.
The 62nd TV Week Logie Awards will take place this Sunday at Queensland’s Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre, and a fair bit has changed since we last celebrated television’s night of nights. Here’s what you need to know.
Who is eligible after the two-year break?
Given the sheer length of time between the upcoming Logies and the previous awards, organisers decided on a slightly extended cut-off date for eligibility. For any host, actor, actress or program to be eligible for nomination, their work or the show had to air between January 1, 2021 and March 31, 2022, except for the category of outstanding sports coverage, which covers the period from January 1, 2021 to March 14, 2022.
Unfortunately for programs that aired throughout 2020 and the actors that starred in them or the talent that hosted them, they are ineligible for nomination.
What time does it start?
The action from the red carpet and awards show will be broadcast on Nine and streaming on 9Now (Nine is the publisher of this masthead). Red carpet coverage kicks off at 7pm and is being hosted by Leila McKinnon, David Campbell and Renee Bargh, while the awards begin at 7:30pm.
Any changes we need to know about?
Yes, there are a few, actually. The Silver Logie for most popular presenter will be renamed the Bert Newton Award to honour the late, great Bert Newton, who sadly passed last October. A Logies Hall of Fame inductee, winner of four Gold Logie awards and the host of TV’s most prestigious night a record 20 times, Bert Newton was the Logies, so a nod to “Old Moonface” makes sense. The award will be handed out by Bert’s wife, Patti.

The Logie Awards have also introduced a brand-new award, a Silver Logie for most popular Australian actor or actress in an international program. The award acknowledges the significant number of Australians making their mark across the globe in international hits. This year’s nominees include Succession star Sarah Snook and Murray Bartlett from The White Lotus.
Who is hosting?
No one. The Logies hasn’t had a dedicated host since 2011, when Shane Bourne stepped into the role. Instead, the ceremony will feature a revolving door of famous presenters, including Mel B, Hamish Blake and Andy Lee, Leigh Sales, Tony Armstrong, Dylan Alcott and Claudia Karvan.
Who is performing?
Lots of people. The Logie Awards have confirmed that Australian acts Jimmy Barnes, Jessica Mauboy and Tim Minchin will perform at this year’s event. Meanwhile, UK pop star Calum Scott will also take to the stage to showcase a medley of tracks from his upcoming album, Bridges.
Any special guests or tributes?
Historically, the Logies have involved celebrity guests imported from Hollywood. Think John Travolta in 1990 or Jessica Alba in 2007. Usually, they look happy to be there but confused as to what a Logie is and why they were invited.
No A-listers have been confirmed this year, but we can expect an all-star send-off for long-running soap Neighbours, which wrapped production this month. A tribute to the show will run during the presentation for the Graham Kennedy Award for most popular new talent.
Both current and former cast members will be in attendance, and given Kylie Minogue recently moved back to Australia and filmed scenes for the finale, there’s a chance Charlene could return to the Logies.
Will it be good?
Well, it’s the Logie Awards, so it’ll be good, bad, long, memorable and cringeworthy, but at the end of the day, you wouldn’t have it any other way.
