This is the top nail trend being worn in the Love Island villa this year

With the drama following Love Island’s movie night still unfolding, you might not be paying your usual amount of attention to the Islanders’ beauty looks – but we certainly have been.

We’ve spotted the girls are almost all wearing the same style of manicure this year: the French tip. This look is very different from those worn by Islanders in previous years when neons and brights were a favourite. 2022 contestants like Gemma Owen, Indiyah Polack and Paige Thorne have been debuting their neutral nails on the screen this past week, and it looks like their fingertips have been polished by the same technician.

All three of the girls have opted for subtle pink nails, square or “squoval” (square/oval) in shape and with thin white tips at the end of each one – very classy. Their manicures are also very fitting of the current “barely there” – also nicknamed the “no-manicure manicure” or “no-nicure” – nail trend circulating social media.

Loved by everyone fromMolly-Mae HagueandMaura HigginstoHailey BieberandAriana Grande, shiny and healthy looking nails in an understated hue are the go-to right now, whether on a shorter, natural length or longer looks created with the help of extensions.

In more detail, “the ‘no-manicure manicure’ is the nail take on the ‘clean girl’ aesthetic,” explains Juanita Huber-Millet, founder of luxury nail salon chainTownhouse, which has just opened a new salon in Kensington, London. “It’s the nail equivalent to the natural, dewy makeup look – so looking super put together and natural, seemingly with minimal effort.

In other nail trend news, Hailey Bieber is sparking a massive surge in demand for “glazed donut nails”. It’s not as tasty as it sounds, sadly, but it does make fingertips look effortlessly chic.

Hailey recently toldRefinery29exactly what she asks for when it comes to her nails, and the look is basically a combination of neutral, pearly white and a chrome colours. Luckily, the finished effect is surprisingly simple to achieve, and most nail salons should be able to recreate the look for you.

“I do one thin layer of a colour,” Hailey said in the interview. “I like making my own colours too, so I’ll ask the nail technician: ‘Can you mix this with this and put clear in it to thin it out?’ Then I rub chrome dust over it. I’m having a chrome nail obsession.”

And with that we conclude nail news for the day.
