It isn’t too late to snag tickets to U2‘s highly anticipated residency, which marks the first set of shows to be performed at the massive new Sphere in Las Vegas.
“U2:UV Live at Sphere Las Vegas” opened Friday night, with 17 concerts set through Nov. 4. The group originally planned for a mere five gigs but announced last week that they would extend their run. While tickets to the added dates immediately sold out during the presale, there are still tickets available on resale sites such as Stubhub, VividSeats, Seatgeek and Ticketmaster.
The group is now officially booked into the one-of-a-kind venue from Sept. 9 through Nov. 4, mostly on weekends, with some Wednesday dates as well. The group isn’t officially declaring that this now represents the entirety of the engagement, but the Edge has made it clear what the outer boundaries of their time in Vegas would be. If there are more dates to be added, there is only one additional weekend they could take place before Sphere’s calendar is booked with other events.
In a Q&A with Variety the Edge said, “Because of the size of the venue, the scope of this run will be probably a maximum of six weeks. And we couldn’t possibly really realistically do more shows than that. So I don’t think it really qualifies as a classic residency.” With the addition of the latest dates, U2’s engagement at Sphere now stretches across six weeks, as the Edge predicted.
In his review of U2’s first show at the Sphere, Variety music critic Chris Willman wrote that “Against many odds — of age, of personal change, of shifts in attitude about authenticity and delusions of grandeur — ‘U2:UV’ does come off managing to feel like actual rock ‘n’ roll. It also feels like Circus Circus marrying some kind of foreign-film aesthetic. With all the heart and soul and silliness and grandiosity appropriate to the host city, this might be the best shotgun wedding Las Vegas ever presided over.”
