We went on a dream holiday and the first thing she did was dump me – The Sun | The Sun

DEAR DEIDRE: ON the first day of our holiday my girlfriend dumped me. How she could be so cruel?

We’d been together for four years. I’m 23 and she’s 22. Six months ago she went abroad on a university placement and our relationship became long-distance.

We spoke every night and she told me she loved me.

Last month we arranged a two-week holiday in Spain. I was so excited to meet her at the airport after so long apart.

We hugged and kissed and I couldn’t wait to fall into bed.

But over dinner that evening she said her feelings had changed and she wanted to break up.

I had a couple of miserable days, then got a flight home.

I don’t understand why she couldn’t tell me before, instead of dragging me out to Spain and making me spend money on flights and hotels.

Despite this, I still love her and want her back.

DEIDRE SAYS: Your girlfriend’s actions do seem selfish, but perhaps she wanted to tell you face-to- face, rather than over the phone or by message.

Or maybe she wasn’t sure she wanted to break up until she saw you again.

Do talk to her and ask for a full explanation.

Unfortunately, if she has decided she wants to split up, it’s unlikely you can change her mind.

My support pack, Mending A Broken Heart, should help you heal.
