DESIRABLE DENIM
My default outfit, when I don’t have the brain power to think of anything else, is jeans. Same as almost everyone else. But now the weather is improving, I’m upgrading the default to a still-lazy-but-lovely denim dress.

CATWALK CUES
I understand your hesitation. After all, they’ve never quite made it to ‘fashion staple’ status. But then Loewe sent a stunning denim slip dress — patchwork with asymmetric ruffle hem — down the catwalk and everything changed. And it wasn’t the only designer denim dress. Dior’s offering was fabulously feminine, a mid-length, short-sleeved shirtdress with gorgeous full skirt and belted waist.
RELAXED STYLE TO SUIT ALL BODY SHAPES
A denim dress ticks all the same boxes as your denim jeans — affordable, durable and versatile — but it’s also supremely comfortable. There’s no need to squeeze yourself into a restrictive waistband. The relaxed, drop-waist design I’m wearing here is from Albaray and is 100 per cent responsibly sourced cotton. If you’re petite, try the Boden design (see box below) which is a similar feel but stops above the knee.
NOW DRESS IT UP
It goes without saying that they look great with flip-flops or trainers — I love the retro New Balance I’m wearing here. But your denim dress looks surprisingly good dressed up with a pair of heels, too. Use gold jewellery to soften the look.
