Why I love these comeback classics: Some of EDWINA INGS-CHAMBERS favourite beauty legends have been reissued – and now they’re better than ever
When it comes to my all-time favourite beauty products, Rodin Olio Lusso Luxury Face Oil is right up there. As modern parlance loves to frame it at the moment: it ticks all my boxes. Firstly, it works: an excellent hydrator, it also leaves skin glowing. Secondly, it smells glorious with a signature aroma of jasmine and neroli (though I appreciate that the essential oils used for this may not suit everyone’s skin). And lastly, it comes in elegant packaging: a tall, slimline glass bottle with a pipette. When it was launched in 2007 by stylish New Yorker Linda Rodin, it achieved almost instant cult status. Then suddenly, about a year ago, it was gone.
Having been bought by Estée Lauder Companies in 2014, the brand had expanded into more skincare with the now 74-year-old Rodin continuing at the helm for a while (if you’re not already aware of her you should follow her on Instagram @lindaandwinks), but then the entire label was shuttered. Luckily, its return was always part of the plan. It has now been resuscitated in collaboration with one of Estée Lauder Companies’ other brands, Jo Malone London. Officially, this is a year-long offering, but let’s hope that will be extended if it proves successful.

The capsule collection includes other greatest hits. Alongside the Jo Malone London Rodin Luxury Face Oil (£66, jomalone.co.uk) there’s Body Oil (£88), Gel Cleanser (£50), Face Cream (£66) and Hand & Body Cream (£56), all luxurious, all with the same sumptuous aroma.
There have been more great reissues lately, this time from the fragrance world. Byredo (recently bought by Spanish company Puig for close to £1 billion) decided to bring back its famous Mister Marvelous Eau de Parfum (£182, byredo.com) for a limited run. First launched in 2011, this achieved peak status in the fragrance business, so why it was taken out of circulation is baffling. But the much-loved blend of mandarin leaves, neroli flowers, bamboo, green lavender, amber and cedar wood is back with us and manages to be both fresh and spicy all at once.
Christian Dior has reissued two old favourites from its La Collection Privée perfume range, both of which were originally created in 2004 by the then visiting nose Francis Kurkdjian who was announced last year as Dior’s new in-house perfumer.
While fragrance aficionados await his first big creation, these earlier odes to Dior have been tweaked and returned to circulation: Cologne Blanche (orange blossom, violet, amber) and Eau Noire (lavender, liquorice, honey). Alongside them is Bois d’Argent (iris, frankincense, amber), the bestseller in the collection, which was created by Annick Menardo. The trio is currently available as a sleek set (£345, dior.com) but from next month you can purchase them all individually (£225 for 125ml).

I’M IN A LATHER FOR THESE, TOO
Meanwhile, another classic brand has had a bit of a makeover: Cussons Imperial Leather. The soap bar was a staple of my childhood. Its rich lather fascinated me and I could roll it between my hands for ages just watching the foaminess increase. And there was always the added fun of trying not to lose the signature label no matter how small the bar became. But the brand has long since been a lot bigger than just the classic soap – the Foamburst shower gels are truly luscious – and now the whole range has had a revamp.
The iconic Imperial Leather Original Soap Bar has had a makeover. Edwina says that it was a childhood staple for her
First up is the iconic Imperial Leather Original Soap Bar (around £1.60, nationwide). Don’t panic, nothing too radical has gone on, but it has been reformulated to be even creamier in its lathering capabilities while still looking reassuringly familiar.
Other products have been made extra luxurious, with essential oils added to the fantastic Body Wash range
Other products have been made extra luxurious, with essential oils added to the fantastic Body Wash range – which is now more moisturising than ever – and the Bath Soak (both around £1.50) now creamier too. Both come in a range of enticing new scents, including Pampering Mallow & Rose Milk, Muscle Recovery Bergamot & Sea Salt and Relaxing Lavender & Wild Iris. They all feel far fancier than their price tags suggest, delivering a hit of sheer happinessinducing bathing nostalgia.
