DEAR DEIDRE: LIFE is so much better since I first wrote to you about feeling suicidal after years of poor mental health and suffering flashbacks to the sexual abuse I suffered as a child.
I was also struggling financially.
At 38, I couldn’t see a way forward.
You were the first person I’d ever confided in, and you were so kind and understanding. I can’t tell you how much that meant to me.
You sent me your support packs on Male Rape and Abused As A Child, and told me about mental health support I could access.
In addition, you recommended I contact Turn2us (turn2us.org.uk, 0808 802 2000) for free financial advice.
Since then, life has improved immeasurably.
I’m now getting benefits I didn’t know I was entitled to, which have improved my quality of life.
I’ve been diagnosed with PTSD, for which I’m getting support.
