Youve been cooking roast potatoes wrong – chef says Marmite is key

Top chefs say the must-have food of 2023 are Marmite roast potatoes.

Masterchef judge Poppy O’Toole pioneered the idea of adding Marmite when boiling your spuds and then drizzling it over the top before putting it in the oven.

And chef Simon Shaw said: “A little tip for roast potatoes is to put a bit of Marmite in the water when you’re parboiling the potatoes.

“It gives them a really nice colour and will present you with deep-golden roasties every time.”

Poppy has amassed millions of followers online after posting easy-to-follow recipe tutorials on TikTok and is an expert on cooking the perfect Sunday roast.

She says that adding two tablespoons of Marmite to roasties in place of salt can give them an extra savoury kick.

“Loads of you have been cooking my Marmite roast potatoes and loving them,” she says.

“I can safely say I’ve made it my life’s work to nail the perfect roast potato and I’m proud to say I’ve cracked it.”

And her unique recipe has proven popular with those following her videos on social media.

One fan posted: “I am salivating on my way to the store for Marmite and potatoes…Thank you!!!”

It comes after a Michelin-trained chef revealed to Daily Star his handy hacks for cooking roast potatoes.

He revealed there are five mistakes people are making, including using spuds that aren't fresh.

Jeff went on to say you shouldn't use too much oil and also the potatoes should be spaced out enough in the oven.
