A huge image of England star White is projected onto iconic landmark before the Women’s Euros | The Sun

A GIANT picture of Ellen White was projected onto the White Cliffs of Dover on Thursday – six nights before England begin their battle for Euros silverware.

The ginormous illumination of the Lionesses' number nine coincided with a petition calling for the site to be renamed after the striker.

Travel firm Snaptrip wants the National Trust to rename the famous landmark the Ellen White Cliffs of Dover throughout the contest.

Their call comes five days before Sarina Wiegman’s side’s tournament opener against Austria at Old Trafford, the first match of the first Women’s Euros to be held on English soil since 2005.

Company chief executive Matthew Fox said: “When Great Britain won gold at the Olympics, we painted post boxes.

“During the men's World Cup in 2021, we woke up to the news that Southgate Street in Gloucester had been renamed ‘Gareth Southgate Street’.

"We wanted to add a little of that magic ahead of the Women’s Euros."

“With this summer's tournament taking place in England it seemed only right to celebrate one of the best footballers the country has to offer, at one of the UK’s most iconic landmarks.

“The petition started out as a bit of fun, but it would be fantastic to see such a famous landmark embrace a temporary new identity in support of the national women’s team.

White, who returned to training this week following a short spell out after testing positive for Covid, is due to take part in the Euros for the third time in her career.
