Angelique Kerber reveals she is pregnant and announces she will miss US Open with brilliant tweet | The Sun

FORMER World No1 Angelique Kerber will miss out on the US Open starting on Monday after she announced on Twitter that she is pregnant.

The 34-year-old is expecting her first child and will take a short break from tennis.

But it does not mean that she will be retiring.

She said on Twitter: "I really wanted to play the @usopen but eventually I decided that two against one just isn't a fair competition.

"For the next month, I will take a break from travelling the globe as a tennis player but then again, I believe it's for the best possible reason.

"The @usopen have a special place in my heart and I wish I could have said goodbye to all of you on court before not being around on tour for a while.
