Arsenal fans in meltdown as William Saliba is pictured at training ground for first time since returning from Marseille | The Sun

ARSENAL fans were thrilled to see centre-back William Saliba FINALLY back at the club.

The Gunners signed the 21-year-old French defender for £27million way back in the summer of 2019.

However, he is yet to make a single competitive appearance for the club.

That is because he immediately returned to Saint-Etienne on loan three years ago.

He then joined Nice for the 2020/21 campaign, before being farmed out on another loan to Marseille last season.

He has gathered some valuable experience in that time, impressing as he played 36 of Marseille's 38 Ligue 1 matches last term.

He was named as the Ligue 1 Young Player of the Year and also included in the Ligue 1 Team of the Year.

And the Arsenal faithful are excited about the prospect of Saliba finally staying put and giving Ben White and Gabriel some competition at the Emirates.

One social media user reacted to the tweet showing Saliba, saying: "Welcome Saliba, come perform some crazy magic tackles for us. Can’t wait to see you play👊."

While another added: "I spy with my little eye the best centre-back in the world."
